Personally, I find this very sickening, but it doesn't surprise me in the least.

I've seen some nasty pictures come out of China, like one of a chow dog POUNDED FLAT like a pancake, stamped like a side of beef, and hung up in a market. It looked silly until I realized what it was.

Sick.

 

My point is, what people of other cultures eat should not be taken into account because of the fact that every culture has their fair share of eating strange things... What may seem unnatural to you may be second nature to others of different cultures... Take balut eggs for example... A Filipino delicacy... Other cultures think it's gross but to them they're awesome...

To take something from another culture and make it into a freak show just seems rather ignorant... Now I'm not saying that I would eat any of the things I have mentioned, but I certainly wouldn't make it seem like it's a freak show... It's insulting to those cultures...

How do you think people of other cultures view us with our beef and pork consumption??? There are cultures that would gasp at us doing so...

 

I am aware that other cultures have different eating habits, and much of it stems from
circumstances and from economy but I just think that there is a line that needs to be drawn where things just become wrong. I have seen those bault eggs and they dont apeal to me. Filipino culture has more going for it then those eggs, and if people stopped eating them they would do just fine. I feel the same way about bullfights in spain. It should just stop. I think as humans try to better themselves we should start being more sensitive towards other life. The cat thing is just dead wrong though. You would have had to see it yourself. I mean, cats are generally really nice guys...the least you could do..if you really had to eat them is to give them a swift death.

Yeah but how do you stop cultural behavior that stems from hundreds to thousands of years of common practice??? That's why it's a part of their culture... It's been a part of their lives for so long that to do otherwise would not be a part of the culture...

And I have two cats... I would never want a cat to suffer... Hell, I wouldn't want any living thing to suffer... But I can understand when other cultures don't share that point of view with me since they live such a different life... They don't have USDA-like agencies there and if they do, it's very limited in what they can enforce since there are other more pressing issues... I don't believe they think of it as being cruel to the animal... They think of it as a way to prepare the food they want to eat...

Actually, there is an experimental treatment for what would normally be terminal stage rabies. It's been awhile since I heard about it and I'm no medical expert, but my understanding from the report is that it's not the virus itself that makes the disease terminal but the brain's reaction to it. Doctors were able to induce a coma in a rabies patient, shutting down whatever part of the brain is responsible for the reaction. The patient's immune system was then able to fight the virus normally and eliminate it without killing the patient. There was a report about it on NPR news quite some time ago.
