Must be a slow sports day if "ChessBoxing" was god enough to make the front page of ESPN.com.There's a pretty interesting video at the URL, if you have ESPN Motion installed.

    That's...

Man, I dunno, I guess I find that pretty damn awesome. I would probably be entertained the entire time I was watching one of those matches.

    That is just silly.

The only element I like is combining a battle of wits with a battle of physical strength and stamina.

Which is why I like mixed martial arts so much.

You take a big strong wrestler and put against a small ju jitsu guy. The wrestler slams the ju jitsu guy to the ground, the ju jitsu guy slaps on a triangle choke and wins. Royce Gracie showed that technique and skill can overcome brute force.

Only MMA has evolved so much that you really need to be skilled in all areas of fighting, in addition to being physically superior.

This just seems forced and akward.

This reminds me of a sport I wanted to invent called "Baseball/Beating the shit out of each-other with baseball bats"

It would be the best sport ever.

Didn't Gracie lose recently to Hughes? I agree with you about being well rounded. Grappling skills don't mean much if you get knocked out with a knee to the head. You should catch some of the vale tudo stuff. It's wild.

They didn't really merge or mix the two activities, so much as just place them side by side.

I'd be more interested if the players were actual grandmasters that obviously weren't that physical, or boxers that clearly don't play chess, so you have that "fish out of water" intrigue to it.

I was giving a general example. Actually Dan Severn vs Royce. Believe me, I am a huge follower. Pride, UFC, KOTC, etc. I try to follow them all.

I was even toying with the idea of making a MMA card game. But I'm not sure how much interest there would be in something like that.

I propose an electronic version, with alternating rounds of Chessmaster and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out.

From the title I thought that this was some type of wierd mix of the two.. When you took your opponents pieces, you get to hit them. You have to admit, it does sound a little weirder than the "real" chess boxing .
