Chances of other brands doing high quality TF movie stuff?

I've been browsing the MWCToys.Com archive and drooling over the Hot Toys stuff, and especially their robot related things. Which made me wonder.

Let's face it: We can forget Hasbro doing anything hi-quality. Yes, they might make MP figures of the movie characters, but I'd rather have highly accurate figures then semi-accurate ones, even if that means that they won't transform.

But there's the problem of Transformers being a movie based on toys. Not on a TV series, not on a cartoon, not a comic book, but toys, which REALLY complicates things. For example, with Star Wars Hasbro had nothing to say over other companies getting the license for other toys. But since they own Transformers, that might prove to be a little more problematic.

So what do you guys think are the chances of other companies (read: Hot Toys) managing to convince Hasbro into letting them make highly accurate 12/14-inch movie stuff of primarily Bumblebee, Prime and Megatron? I would gladly pay anywhere between $120-200 for that.

Oh yeah, if you guys aren't familiar with Hot Toys, here's some of their sci-fi stuff.

EDIT: GAH. Title should be 'companies' instead of 'brands'. Could a mod edit please?

I'd say the chances are roughly zero. Hasbro has owned the Transformers license in America since, what? 1984? And they've made a pretty consistently high profit making toys for Transformers. Why on earth would they let that license slide to another company?

Not going to happen, but I am hoping for some Lego TFs. REAL Lego TFs.

Not the entire license, naturally. Just the high-quality stuff that they don't get into.

Example: Let's say that McFarlene owns Aliens VS Predator. They make the regular figures, but Hot Toys make the highend stuff I linked to, something that McF doesn't get into it.

You couldn't replicate the movie transformations, even at 1:1 scale.

Well, Mcfarlane only got licensed to do some of the action figures, but other companies got licensed to do other Alien/Predator merchandise. In the case of Transformers, Hasbro actually owns the brand (as compared to McFarlane, who was licensed to do products from 20th Century Fox). I can't really see Hasbro "outsourcing" Transformers products too much.

Well, yeah, they outsource to IDW because Hasbro really doesn't make comics. They make toys. :p

Well, Galoob made the Titaniums, right? I don't see a problem with licensing out certain things so that Hasbro can reap some benefits on products they don't have to lift a finger to make.
