I just came across this image from one of the old Japanese magazines and it made me reflect on something: There was never really anything like this presented for Transformers. Prime's the leader, Megatron's the leader, and Jazz or whoever is the second in command. But command structure was never really explored as far as I know.

What are your personal command structures?

I'm a little confused here. Is Galvatron in charge of the Quintessons? And to Rodimus and the Minibots have joint command over Jazz, and vicariously, the Junkions?

    I always saw it as

Optimus - Prowl or Jazz (even though I think he's too jokey to be) - each combiner team has its leader

Megatron - starscream - Soundwave or Thundercracker (he seemed to be giving the orders in countdown to destruction part 1) each combiner team has it's leader

Rodimus - Ultra magnus - maybe Kup or springer - each combiner team has it's leader

Galvatron - Cyclonus - Scourge - each combiner team has it's leader

    I see this chains as:
OP - Ironhide - Prowl - others with their teams leaders.
Megatron - Soundwave - Starscream - others with their teams leaders. Starscream behaves like second-of-command, but he only wants to be this ;)  Soundwave appears as more important for Megatron.

As for season 3 chains, my are just like thespaniard's.

Those are Coneheads. (Aka Ramjet, Thrust, and Dirge.)

Seekers have the normal box heads. (Starscream, Thundercracker, Skywarp, and Sunstorm.)

It doesn't matter, they're called "Jetrons" in Japan.

Well, I would rather prefer some specific details. Maybe pointed Jetrons?

It tells the Coneheads from the Seekers.

    The Coneheads are seekers. -_-''

You're complaining about a subgroup within a subgroup. Besides their heads it's a distinction without a difference.

This is pretty much the way I always thought of it. However, I felt that Ironhide held a more significant role as Prime's confidant and longtime war buddy.
Otherwise, this as a beautiful vintage piece of TF lore and I see no reason in complaining about anything that is represented here. I could do nothing but enjoy reading it.

I can't find much to disagree with there.

Personally I think outside of the top ranking officers the Autobots would organize their military like a professional military with different jobs and positions (functions as the tech specs would say) and from there into departments along those lines.

This probably makes more sense to me than anything else that I've read, especially if we think of each faction like their own business. I mean, it's not simply a ladder, but rather a web of different responsibilities, with many of the higher upps having different duties, depending on the current project.

... however when it comes to my person canon (aka, my toys as a kid), I didn't have many of the main characters (villains especially), so Ramjet was my Decepticon leader, Flywheels was his 2nd, Blitzwing was commonly the assault leader, while Scrapper assumed his regular role as leader of the Constructicons who were my flunkies.

TF:Animated actually presented a diff kind of command structure, and used name designations as rank. From what we can tell, Magnus is the supreme commander over all Autobot forces. He has his Elite Guard are his next in rank officers as well as a council of advisors (looking to be made up of diff ranked Autobots, we have Primes there and non Primes although they might have just been addressed improperly). Autobot forces are split into teams assigned certain sectors, each most likely with a Prime acting as team leaders (as seen with Optimus and Rodimus)
