Which do you prefer? CGI animation or Cartoons? CGI has brought us Beast Wars/Machines, and Prime. and also about 2/3 of the Unicron Trilogy, right?
Whereas Cartoons brought us G1, Armada, Beast Wars II and Beast Wars Neo. Do tell me if I'm missing stuff out here.

So which do you prefer? Personally, I prefere CGI as more can be done with it, in terms of visual effects, and also the CGI transformers programmes have been the best transformers series I've seen (I'm talking about you, Beast Wars.)

    Cartoon.

TFP pulls of CG really well though, but I wonder when we'll get a North American Transformers show that just has traditional cartoon animation...without being overly stylized or cartoony like Animated. The way shows like Young Justice and Generator Rex do it.

I prefer 2D only because as Animated has shown us, you can populate a vast world of characters.

Both have their place. I have to say though that although I love traditional art and hand drawn animation I really like CGI as well. When done right it looks really nice. I love TF Prime. So like I said I think both have their place and both can be really amazing. But at the same time in this context I really love the CGI. So yeah. I would tend to slide in that direction.

I don't really care which, as long as it doesn't look stupid. For example, I'll take Clone Wars 3D over Green Lantern and I'll take as Bountyan said Young Justice over say this piece of poop:

CGI, because with limited amount of characters, everyone can get a toy.

    Hand-drawn. Always.

    Always.

Even though two thirds of the good Transformers cartoons are in CGI: Prime and BW. TFA's the only really good hand-drawn Transformers cartoon, even though I like RiD for how intentionally goofy the dub was.

I think it's unlikely we'll see another Cel-animated series for a long, long time due to cost and technology issues, but I think I'll always have a special place in my heart for traditional 2D animation.

However, in the end I think they're just two different mediums in the same genre, and what matters most is how they're combined with the storytelling.

I prefer traditional animation. It is nowhere near as expensive to populate a traditional cartoon as it is CGI. Prime looks fantastic, but because of how expensive CGI is, we'll only ever have a small cast. Transformers cartoons have always had larger casts.

AW! Don't make me choose. I love the 2D in G1 and Animated, and I love the 3D in Beast Wars, Beast Machines and Prime. Haven't seen much of the animes so I just can't decide.

Tough choice. 2D animation is so appreciative because you feel a sense of labor and thought went into every last detail and it isn't restricted to the capabilities of a computer, while on the flip-side CGI is great because it feels more real and less open to human error. I think I have to agree with Aernaroth in that it doesn't matter how it's made as long as it tells the story properly.

We talkin hand painted cel-animation, or digitally-colored flash animation? Because the former is not cheaper than CGI when done well.

cgi is too cheesy for me. at least the hand drawn stuff looks more "realistic" (cartoon-wise). cgi looks...well....wrong.

Each has their own set of advantages, disadvantages, and pitfalls, from both artistic/visual and production viewpoints. No preference.

Both have their pros and cons(hur hur hur) but I like 2D for the simple fact of limitlessness.
