I'm sure this has been talked about before, but looking for some thoughts, just seen the CGI Optimus Vs. Megatron clip and thought if they would do a movie in this format that would kick butt. what do you all think? thanks.

No. The models arent good enough, the animation was stiff, and the the fight was boring.

I disagree. I think if they budgeted it for a full length feature, like all these DC direct to vids, this style would be great.

Agreed. Not very natural. And not not natural in a giant-robot way, but not natural in a totallky fake way.

    Also, in before lock.

I think a $150,000,000 budget would take care of that.

Designs would need to be reworked to allow for a greater range of motion without parts clipping. The arms on Prime and Megs in that clip don't appear to be connected to their torsos.

Does it really matter? It's just the same old fight ready to be waged again.

'Challenge of the GoBots' looked better than Animated in my opinion.

Not if they still looked like that. They'd have to change the designs considerably to allow for more natural movements. Which is pretty much what they did. ("pretty much" is a lose term)

As it stands, this Prime can't even touch his left shoulder with his right hand without his polygons overlapping. Movie Prime can. Hell, at least Movie Prime looks cool, these G1 Designs in 3D look like crap. G1 should stick to 2d where it looks it's best.

Yeah, but movie Prime looks like ass. I really wish the movie would have used cleaner designs. It's like they made them overly busy, just to prove that they could render it.

These designs would never work for a live action feature, but it would be great for an animated series. I'd love to see MTMTE reanimated like this. I don't generally like CGed cartoons, but I think this would be pretty cool.

Hmm....I would like to see the entire 86 movie like this! It might not be perfect, but seriously, G1 didn't lookt exactly top notch either...

So, basically, what you're saying, is that the 'sledgehammer of re-design' is the only thing that could fix all our engineering problems by a little 'smashy, smashy, crunch, crunch'?

Honestly, I think a bit more thought into the robot mode design could easily rectify a significant portion of articulation issues. I'm not neccessarily sure if you'll ever get the classic box with accordian joints look (which quite frankly is fine as long as you don't take the OPPOSITE Extreme), but something a bit closer to the hyperdetailed DON, Milne, EJ Su look.

Figuring out how to get a hand to touch a shoulder shouldn't be an issue, because that dilemma has already been solved. Just take a look at any recent Master Grade GUNDAM model kit from the past few years, and you'll see that articulation in general, is not much of a problem, save a few spots which utilize ball joints.

I think they're good. Determining upon the designing and the quality of animated. If they don't look like the battles in Energon, I'm good.
