    This somewhat surprises me, since AVATAR was supposed to herald the second coming of CGI.

    I don't think that Avatar broke any new ground as far as CGI goes - it's the overall visual display that it raised the bar for. Comparatively speaking, the Transformers models are far more complex than the Avatar models. But Avatar's 3D display of its elements is more complicated than ROTF.

    I don't think they're saying it has the best CG of 2009, just that the article they did on the CG was one of the best things they had on their site in 2009.

    I don't think they've done a behind-the-scenes on Avatar yet.

    I honestly didn't fin the CGI in RoTF to be all that better than in the first one.. especially in the final battle between Prime and The Fallen... it really started to look like the game animation models to me.. Speed up and detailed down. However, I do admit that it's badass that RoTF got the best CGI in '09 from CG Society. I guess that a step in the right direction.
