There have been warnings about cell phones and radiation, etc, for years. Not like anyone has been listening.

Weird how I instantly thought of Fox news when I saw the title of this thread.

Also, the James Bond looking phone gun looks pretty awesome. Would be pretty awful to have an accidental pocket dialing with that though.

Story's over a year old. Neither Fox or the Independent actually tell us what the research was or give us any useful information. Get back to me when someone's got more than "he tell me."

I do remember this type of worry back when cell phones first came out. They even sold these little plastic things to put over the ear piece so as to deflect the signal emitted from the phone. I always wondered what ever came of that. It was big news for a while, then everyone just stopped talking about it.

It was bullshit. IIRC, the type of radiation emitted isn't one that can affect human tissue, and the doofer you could stick on your phone was invented by an advertising guy with no scientific knowledge.

I did some research on this for an electromagnetics class I took last year. Here's what I remember:

    - Cell phones do emit electromagnetic radiation, but in such low levels that it would take prolonged exposure (like, 1000+ hours with your phone constantly transmitting/receiving a phone conversation, with your phone pressed up against your head as closely as possible) for anything to occur

    - Most of the evidence available on phones causing cancer is corollary evidence. I.e., "All cell phones emit radiation. People die from radiation poisoning. People use cell phones. Therefore, all people will die of cell phone radiation poisoning." These studies usually use numbers of people as their evidence and do not factor in individual points like the frequency of the phone use, the type of phone used, etc. Even the Fox News article makes this mistake. "If you use a handset for more than 10 years, radiation poisoning may occur." How frequently over the course of 10 years? Regularly? How regular is regularly? What if bouts of inactivity occur in between?

    - Much of this research does not factor in the human body's ability to heal itself or otherwise filter out essentially harmless radiation. All of us absorb a few rads per day from the sun, flourescent lights, cell phones, etc. We're alive because these are filtered out of, or otherwise blocked by, our bodies.

Just the source of this news article confirms it's bullshit, IMO.

You could use cell phones as detonators too. Also, you can shove a cell down a persons throat. See "See No Evil".
