My advice: Don't get a cat. The litter box stinks up the house and you can never wear black because of all the hair.

My advice: get one, but don't let it out if you live in a busy area. Also, get him some of that canned cat food once in a while. (but make sure it's good stuff)

Other than that, it's all pretty much common sense.

Yeah, indoor kitties are live kitties.

Also, if you use the Arm & Hammer Litter Deodorizer and clean the box daily smell shouldn't be a big problem. Most really bad cat smells are due to diet anyways, so don't feed em the cheap stuff or you'll know (smell) it.

And protip - Transformer packaging wires are great cat toys, it's one of the few things my cat'll play with. Chase it, swat it, and toss it around, he loves em!

Cats are pretty easy to train because the great thing is they want to use the litter box, they're by nature ocd like that. Kittens can be a little harder to break in, but just show the litter box to it (and keep it in the same place all the time), and just reinforce that's where it needs to go. It'll pick it up pretty quick.

With kittens, it's good to start with a little cardboard box, so it can get into it easy. Maybe a shoebox lid or something about the size of a pizza box etc.

    EDIT - Boom.

Yeah, cat piss stinks and has a certain smell for sure, but again diet can alter that and make it worse. Just think how bad human piss smells after a night at a bar, or eating asparagus etc. Crappy cat food'll have the same effect.

Also using that clay/absorbing litter helps too, clumps it up and scoop and you're done. If your house smells like cat piss, just get rid of the cat piss then. ;)

Make sure you get your cat started with Feline Leukemia/FVR-CP/and Rabies shots.

Do not feed them human food,no matter how cute they look when they beg. Some human foods can kill them.

And as for letting the cat outside supervised, they can pick up germs and stuff outside that they may not be treated for.

And lastly, you might think about getting another cat a few months later as you tom will want someone to play with.

Vinegar will neutralize cat pee smell. Use regular vinegar for carpet and furnishings, and apple vinegar in the washing machine for clothes and other washables.

Where was this advice when I lived in my last house? Freaking cat pee smell in the front living room never did go away.
