Can anybody explain to me what is going on with the whole first edition Prime toys being different to the full line? I just saw the pics from the Argo website, which appear to have been shopped to remove back kibble. Verys strange. Also, what is this new RID line i'm hearing about? When did that crop up, and what exactly will it contain? I'm very confused.
Oh my god, I swear we've had three of these threads today. Can we plus maybe have a sticky explaining the differences? FE toys have different molds to the main line and are at the moment only available in America and Canada respectively. RID is what the main line is being called.
Let me answer those questions at the same time: those are the RID figures. (RID=Robot in Disguise) No, they did not photoshop out the back kibble, that's what the toys look like. RID is the new toyline for Prime. FE was just a preview. RID is it's own self-contained line with new moulds of some of the FE charatcers with, in some cases, less kibble. RID figures are slightly smaller in size (varies from figure-to-figure how much smaller) due to rising prices of materials. For example, there's an all new Voyager Optimus. Voyagers are now called "Powerizers" (or at least Powerizers is a voyager-sized subline) which contain light up gimmicks. Deluxes are now call "Revealers" and feature brand new moulds of Bumblebee, Cliffjumper and Vehicon, as well as all new characters like Wheeljack and Soundwave.
I would also like to chime in that it is assumed that the FE line was actually suppose to be released earlier last year under the Generations line. This has to do with an ARCEE listing that showed up under Generations. After much debate it was discovered that it was not G1 Arcee but Prime Arcee. I mention this to also clarify why the FE figures are the "old" larger versions of the scale class and the RID line is the smaller versions that match up with the 3rd movie figures.
But even so, the RID figures are not as puny as people will lead you to believe. The only samples we really have to judge the scale are Cliffjumper and Megatron, both have above-average bulkiness in their designs. Cliffjumper's FE figure was shorter, too, and Megatron, while shorter than FE Optimus, is still Voyager sized. He's like maybe a square half inch smaller, you just notice it because he's supposed to be so huge.
Remember when transformers used to just be called Transformers. Not everything about the 80s was bad. At least brand names weren't schizophrenic.
I'm looking forward to seeing just how might height/girth these RID figures lost. I assume not much. Liek the movie line it isn't so much the size that changed (they did get a little smaller) it was the lack of paint apps that ruined them for me. Unfortunately it seems that the RID line will suffer from the same lack of paint app fate. Fortunately the show models are pretty flat when it comes to colours so it won't be as noticeable as with a live action version of a character.
We were discussing the size issue last night on Twitter - I only have Cliffjumper as an RiD Deluxe at the moment, but I admit he does feel a little...small. Especially compared to FE Starscream.
Ahhh. I've gone for the NYCC Arcee/Bee pack, which only has Raf and Jack. Hopefully Miko will show up on eBay later.
Off topic but I really like how we are getting humans in this line. I hope they go one better and give us Human Alliance type figures in the future. I'm also excited about MECH Trooper and Silas. I'm just don't know how I will score them because I already have SS and BB.
Yes it should. I think it's weird that there are two versions of the moulds. I wonder if perhaps they didn't intend for Prime to have its own sub-line? Either way, I much prefer FE Cliffjumper, but I guess we're not getting that over here.
Prime was originally going to be a subline of the generations line. Then they decided to make it it's own line. I believe the FE figures are technically generations molds that were taken and made a subset of the Prime line. This could also explain why there have been so few Generations toys lately.
Yeah, that thread probably should have been stickied. As it is though, it doesn't really have relevant info, since it's all pretty old news. From what I understand, the FE is generally considered better, with the exception of Vehicon? Of course, I reckon we're still gonna get all the characters who were not released in FE...
You know, since the earlier Prime episodes, seeing how the bots have their associated humans (more or less) I've always thought how this line seems to me made with Human Alliance toys in mind. I hope we get to see something in the future.
You and me both brother. I will buy the HA line for Prime as much for the humans as for the bots. I think this show has finally learned how to incorperate humans again, the likes that we have not seen since G1. Ok well Animated did a great job with humans but we didn't get any human figures for that line
