According to this link from Game Informer, work is going ahead by Rogue pictures on a castlevania movie set in the 15th century.

Paul Anderson is going to be directing apparently.

    In my opinion though:

    The Good:
    - There will be a castlevania movie

    The Bad:
    - Paul anderson directed Resident evil, AVP, and Mortal Kombat. While I enjoyed the first mortal kombat, and though RE was an alright movie, this is Castlevania we're talking about here. It's got to be one of the more story driven game's out there, and needs a plot that's far beyond what RE and MK had to get the real effect of the film.
    - The want the film to be along the same lines as Blade or Underworld. Both of these films were not great films though. They were decent enough action films, but again they lacked the depth that the castlevania series has developed over time.
    - There's no mention if the film will include a belmont as the main character. While not every game has focused on a belmont, you'd think for the first movie they would focus on the family which has been the core source of most of the games' characters.
    - It's unknown if Konami is even involved in the making of this film.

So basically, if this thing goes ahead, I'm expecting to see another hellsing movie. One with great potential, and perhaps even great effects and actors used, falling miles short of expectations due to it becoming a shallow, storyless 'summer action film'

at this point I don't think they could screw the story up any more than Koji Igarashi already has.

Doesn't it also have a budget cap of $50million?

Don't go see this film. It will be right in line with Alien vs Predator and Doom.

I thought they did a Castlevania movie already. Wasn't it called Van Helsing?

Shouldn't we not pass judgement and wait until we've seen something on screen?

A Blade-Style NES Castlevania 1 film would be pretty nifty. Though Wesleyy Snipes as Simon would be a bit odd...

See, this is different. This is a GAMES MOVIE. A GAMES MOVIE DONE BY PAUL ANDERSON.

Universal fact: Game movies almost always suck. Paul Anderson movies ALWAYS suck.

I feel sorry for the Castlevania fans. :(

Don't be, we're used to disappointment after DoS was released. Anime characters just look so freaken wrong for Castlevania.

So what you're saying is that when a director with a proven track record as a hack is hired to bring a much loved franchise to the big screen, the fans should worry?

    Bah.

Mortal Kombat was a damn good popcorn movie. Resident Evil was a damn good movie period. AvP was, well, shit.

I think that, given a good script, a damn good movie can be made. To completely dismiss a project from the getgo, without anything but the most basic information about it, is absolutely foolish.

You're kidding right? There're more ANime styled than Non-Anime styled Castlevania's at this point...

Michael Bay never touched a franchise before Transformers, nor did he direct a games movie.

And at least Michael Bay's makes spectacular action movies, Paul Anderson always makes boring slagfests.

I've always thought that Castlevania could be an interesting TV miniseries. It could follow various members of the Belmont family over many generations. It could start in the 1600's and possibly go all the way to present day(even though AFAIK there has never been a present day Castlevania). It would have to be a long miniseries though, so that each Belmont could have a decent amount of story.

Then I hope you are giving Postal, Dungeon Siege and Bloodrayne 2 the benefit of the doubt.

Explain. Do you mean by removing some games from the continuity?
