update: finished! pics in post #22.

Here's my wip drawbridge. It's 20' including base, and is made of Styrofoam. The details, which I'm working on now, will be made from various materials. This is my first diorama, if that's what you'd call it, and my first time working with Styrofoam in general. I'm waiting to borrow a heat wire (?) to smooth out the edges of the door. All the lines were drawn in and then carved out using a drimil.

This is just a mock up of the size for the pieces and crest, not what will be used material wise.

I'm going to sculpt the crest, unless someone has any better and easier ideas. I also don't know what to sculpt it out of. I would like it to say light in weight. So far my options are model magic and air dry clay. I am open to any and all suggestions.

    Thanks!

Have you tried using the type of styrofoam they use behind vinyl siding that comes in sheets of varying thicknesses, (its much denser and has more strength) combined with a heat wire, its awesome and much easier to work with that the type you're using there, just an idea. Just whenever using styrofoam be careful what types of glues and paints you use or you'll wind up melting it away.

i just had this laying around and thought i'd see what i could do. i know to use acrylic/tempra and wood/elmers glue, but thanks for the suggestions. i was able to borrow the heat wand to help the sides of the door and just sanded it. much better!

Wow, really? So you access a member's thread to view their work, and this is the best comment you can offer? That's pretty sad, I must say.

stp, you've done some really killer work here, and it's been very neato seeing you work on this! :)

Well I don't like the way the colors look together. The "metal" isn't metal enough and the crest is so teal.
