All that particular episode shows is that we're ALL owed an apology for enduring the arseclenchingly moronic flapdoodle that apparently passed for writing in 1985.

The fact that it was a kid's show, and this bullshit ignorance was being pumped into impressionable minds, probably made it worse.

I will be the first to admit that watching that episode as an adult for the first time, I laughed at this... but mostly in disbelief. It was wrong and I support Casem for doing what he did.

Starscream's Bridge was at the end of season 2, the episode in question was season 3. (Or so was said earlier in the thread anyway.)

It's funny in a way, since such stereotypes seem like they should be more prominent now after 9/11 and all. (I'm not saying they deserve to be.)

I couldn't tell you any titles. I saw them mentioned on the news last month. The clip they showed was of two young arab men with bomb vests on, lying in wait for a very american-looking military truck and then jumping out in front of it and blowing themselves up. All with messages about how it's every muslam's duty to rid the world of infidels.

It's a sick, sad world out there, folks. But hey, we had Bugs Bunny teach our kids to hate the Natzis. And lest we forget, Japan teaches kids all over the world that cock fights are cool in Pokeymon.

Has there ever actually been a source on this story? Has Wally Burr or anybody else ever come out and said that Kasem left the show specifically because of that issue? I mean, it's certainly well within the realms of possibility, because he's done some odd stuff before, I just think it's worth taking what could be pure conjecture with a pinch of salt.

I've read some pretty wild and verifiably false things about the vocal side of Transformers before. Never underestimate the power of Chinese Whispers.

I won't apologize, because I had nothing to do with it. I actually find it mildly hilarious. Not because I find the "joke" funny, it's not, but the fact that this somehow made it past the sensors and everyone else involved with it.

 

There probably weren't any censors, as you're talking about a time before the term 'politically correct' existed (inasmuch as it is currently used in the U.S.), and when car bombs were repeatedly used to blow up U.S. embassies and Marine barracks in the Middle East...particularly in Beirut.

No, it's quite likely that no one involved in the making of that episode thought much of it at the time. Except Kasem...who is of Lebanese descent.

Understandable then that he got pissed, but an apology is hardly in order. Guy's kind of a dick anyway.
