A while back I saw a transformers cartoon where Optimus was a firetruck, however the "bad guys" were beast decepitcons, including a "dragon" Megatron. I've never seen toys for this series or any mention of it in the wikis! Does anyone know about this?

It's Robots In Disguise. It was on back in 2001.

Also known as Car Robots from the year prior, in Japan. Every character had at least one toy, and I believe they're pretty cheap'n'easy to come by on eBay and the like. :D

IMO the Autobot Brothers from that series were some of the best car transformers ever made (until Alternators came along) Prime and Magnus weren't too shabby either.

They all had rubber tires, transparent windows, and looked great in vehicle mode, even if you could see robot parts in the car's interior.

I have to agree there, the autobot bros were cool too. They need to release this on DVD in the U.S.

Completely agree, on all points. The car bros remain favorites of mine to this day.

It's funny to me that more people don't feel that way. The car bros seem to take just as much criticism as they do praise.

RID is great... one of the bright spots in TF for me. One of the better shows, and an innovative, gimmick-free toyline. The only thing I don't like about it is the use of Predacons instead of Decepticons... just 'cause I've never been a Beast fan. But since there ARE so many Beast fans, it was still a clever way to bring in both audiences!

I love the Car Bros vehicle modes, but their robot modes dont appeal to me. As much as I like BW Neo style, I dont really think it works for vehicular bots. But their vehicles modes are seriously impressive, and I'd actually like it if the Classics looked more like that (and I already loves the Classics as is).

Also, as much as you guys are praising RiD, I havent heard one mention of Rail Racer, arguably the best Combiner in TF History

i love the toys from the series, and i like that they had complex transformations n stuff.. i have 2 out of 3 of the car brothers, and except for all the kibble i do like them, i still need the suv guy, i never got to watch the cartoon.
i love the prime and magnus from the series, and except for not liking to mess with it , i love them combined

It's probably the funniest TF show. Never got to see how it ended unfortunately. I liked Magnus, Op, Skybite, the Car Bros, and Rail Racer.

RID gave us some of the best TFs in many years. It wasn't until then that I picked up anything Transformers related. I got one XBrawn and automatically needed to go back and get the rest. Optimus from the line still stands as one of the best Primes and Magnus is just too damn cool for words. Also, RID gave us Rail Race.. which saddly I never picked up. Was always hoping we'd see them in Universe, but no :(  The Build team combiner also was a thing of beauty... all these years later, you really can't go wrong with that mold.

Add in all the Spy Changers and other molds here and there and you have an awesome line.
