I guess she needs the money.

    It's a shame, really.
Family Guy could get sued a dozen times an episode for all things they parody.

Wow, thats terrific.....a comedienne with no sense of humor. She should be grateful that some of the current crop of comedy writers remembers who she is, instead of worrying about her "publicity rights".

That's sad. She was brilliant once. The carol burnett show was the best variety show ever made.

Thats interesting. It reminds me about the Clerks animated series. In the commentary they say that apparently a celebrity can sue if that celebrity is not portrayed as "working" in whatever they do. Thats why at the end of the third episode of the Clerks animated series, Patrick Swayze who has been working as a janitor in a pet shop the whole episode, says that he is off to go film a movie. I wonder if this kinda thing is involved here.

I'm pretty sure this would be protected under the parody clause.

    A) For those of you who don't know who Carol Burnett is, I weep for ya.

    B) She doesn't need the money, the attention or the work. She is reportedly involved in a couple of films right now, and has had some guest spots on tv and done some stage work.

Had Family Guy stuck to using Carol Burnett, I don't know that she would have a leg to stand on. By using the "cleaning woman", they may have violated use of a copyrighted image. One unfortunate truth of copyright law is that the owner must agressively protect it or risk losing it. OTOH, she may have been offended by the way in which the image was used. Should also point out that CB was the first celebrity to successfully sue the National Enquirer (the money from that suit was given to charity), so this isn't entirely without precedent.

That said, having read through the document and seen the footage, I don't think she has a leg to stand on here. The image and music, I suspect, was altered enough to avoid true copyright infringement, and there isn't much she can do about her name being used in a (mildly) dirty joke.
