This has been a bad week for me and for this to happened when Christmas is near. But my dad has been diagnosed with Carcinoma, it is a rare form of cancer. We don't know yet how serious it is. He is going Friday to have a cat scan. But right now he is not suffering any pain and discomfort, so I am hoping its in the early stage where they can treat it. Does anybody have a family member or someone that you knew had Carcinoma?
I haven't had family members with that particular type that I know of, but I have had them die of various other cancers. I sent a prayer up for you and your family, tho. --Moony
To answer your closing question, Doug, it would help if you were more specific. 'Carcinoma' just means 'benign tumor' - a diagnosis normally includes the organ/region where the carcinoma is situated, e.g. basal cell carcinoma of skin, adrenal carcinoma, etc. But I admit that's sort of besides the point; my deepest sympathies go out to you over this incident, and I hope that treatment will prove helpful.
There are many different carcinomas. Depending on the cell type will tell the prognosis. Hope all goes well with your family.
Sorry to hear that your dad has carcinoma. I can only hope and pray that it's in the earliest stage and can be treatable.
Sorry to hear about your dad. I hope he gets better soon and you and your family will be in my prayers.
My mom's had cancer twice - colon cancer when I was twelve, and breast cancer earlier this year. My grandfather and grandmother on my Dad's side both died of colon cancer, so yeah, I get screenings regularly. (Yuck.) With my mom, we were lucky and it was caught very quickly both times. It's a scary process. This last year, when I got the news Mom had cancer, I got a weird feeling in my gut and I had trouble focusing for several days. Suddenly all the day-to-day stuff seems very difficult and pointless. I remember my wife and my dad and I all played cards in her hospital room while we waited for her to get out of surgery. I think the most important things in that situation are to spend as much time with your affected loved one as you can, and try to stay in the best spirits you can.
I hope everything works out well. 5 people in my family have died of cancer in the last 10 years, so I know what you must be going through. The only difference is that my family always seemed to catch their cancer too late to do anything about. Your family is in my prayers.
I'm sorry to hear that, man. I wish your father and your family the best of luck, hopefully it will be caught in its early stages and treated. Cancer can be a daunting thing to face, but I'm sure things will turn out alright.
I really appreciate all of your concerns and prayers. I have been upset since yesterday around 5:00 pm. I went with my parents to see our family doctor yesterday and the news was not good. She said the carcinoma is in his lungs and it is already in stage 4. She also said chemo might not work and he probably has another 3 to 6 months left without treatment. My dad is going today to have a cat scan done. But the carcinoma in his lungs is probably due to smoking all these years. But I agree what Tacitron had to say about spending much time with my dad during the months he has left. But I don't know what kind of treatment my dad will under go. It depends on what the cancer doctors has to say.
My dad went to have the cat scan yesterday and we will get the results Tuesday. A doctor told my mother that people have survived while being diagnosed with small cell carcinoma. So I'm hoping my dad has the small version of carcinoma.
Yesterday our family physician received my dad's cat scan results and it did'nt say much. She called my mother and my uncle saying that she still believes my dad might have three months to live and chemo will not help. She is only family physician and not a Oncology doctor. I will not give up until an Oncology doctor examines the results of my dad's cat scan.
