Can you spot the difference? (classics Jetfire leg mod)

Sometimes I'm seized by a weird compulsion to modify my toys in the most insignificant ways, to achieve an effect that most people may not even notice...

So here's Jetfire... anyone see the difference? :)

    Did you remove any paint?

The rear wings look folded back, but other than the missing peices, I can't see anything.

The legs look extended more. Is that it?

    Yep! :)

I always found Classics Jetfire to be a bit on the stocky side... this leg extension is only about a centimeter or so, but I find it does help his overall proportions.

It was super easy to do... with a Dremel, it was about 10 minutes, though I think you could do it with only a hobby knife (not quite as fast). Basically, I opened up his lower legs, and the short version is that I cut and sanded few little places, and now his legs lock in place here:

I also shaved down the area around his knees a bit so he can bend his legs slightly backwards. It allows him to take that sort of "anime" posture, and also helps balance the back-heavy fastpack when it's connected. And of course, his legs can still lock into the regular "shorter" position if desired.

It's a two step process. You have to cut new notches inside the "boots" for the spring-loaded tabs to "lock" into.

Then you have to shave off part of the raised guides on the sides of his kneejoint, so that his leg can slide further out of the boot before stopping. The trickiest part is finding the exact spot you want it to stop (I marked it with a pencil before I started cutting).

If it's all done correctly, the leg should lock into position, rock-solid. There's no wobble at all. I find the extra centimeter makes a surprising difference.

Hey dude, could you perhaps take some photos of the the modded areas within the legs to illustrate the mod please? Maybe highlight the areas modded in colour or something?

I'm not very good with instruction mods, really do better seeing the changes :p

Heh heh... saves me the trouble of locating Jetfire's legs and taking pics myself. He's currently in a few different pieces, so if someone else can snap pics, that would be cool. :)
