Not a sexual relationship. That's weird. It's like a man and a kettle getting it off, sorta. Friendship, brother/sister relationship, yes.

So I will say it is at least minorly odd that almost all of the detractors to this idea on the thread arguments can pretty much be summed up as "LOL ROBOT FUCKIN!!!111".

The real question here is " Is it possible for a human and an alien to form a emotional bond and possibly even a romantic one in a believable way in fiction?"

Well Star Trek, Star Wars, Babylon 5, and a host of other SciFi franchisees seems to think the answer is "yes".

Lets not use fanfiction as the bar of what makes an idea good or not, hell they take normal relationships and make them creepy as fuck.

They could get Scarlett Witch and The Vision to co-chair.

Truthfully I think the idea has merit, but requires a skilled writer who can balance the obvious seriousness of the concept with some well placed humour to keep the whole thing from collapsing on itself.

It would however, be a concept best left to the comics rather than the TV show. Different demographics and market penetration so there won't be too much fallout for a storyline getting too risky.

What about Gargoyles? They have a relationship between a human and a gorgoyle happen on screen and no one objected to it. Not even parents if I'm right. If they can get that right then what's to say it won't work with a human and a transfomer on screen?

Dude, Gargoyles rocked my socks and the romance between Eliza Maza and Goliath was handled better than romance I've seen in most places. However, Goliath, despite being a creature of myth is still very much treated as if he is sapient: largely because he's flesh and blood. Optimus Prime et al on the other hand are machine based lifeforms and that creates a bias to those of us not already fans at some level.

Gargoyles was also pitched to a slightly older demographic and probably didn't have the weight of expectation of toy sales to justify its existance. Believe me I hear ya and I think you're right, but pragmatically it would be best kept to comic books; this sort of thing is pretty par for the course there (see my example)

We've built going on 30 years of a franchise on the idea...so yes, yes you can.

Write them as people, and you can have a realisitc relationship between a human and a tree

The Transformers are also humanoids just like Gargoyles and there is evidance of them actually having some DNA so which means that they can be combatible with humans soemwhat suppoisng if it kicks in when the All sparks energy dies out. bear in mind this idea of Transformers having some organic trits isn't new to the franchise just look at Beast Machines. What I'm sating is that while it shoudln't be on the BM level of organic DNA it could be possible of them reporducing with organic races. (Pardon the mentel image I gave you all!:lol )

Transformers Prime is also aimed at a slighty older demographic too don't forget with it's dark tone, killing characters offscreen and such so having characters like Arcee and Jack be in a relationship with each other in the show isn't really far fetched as some people think. It's actually is on the same level with Goliath and Elisa's relationship.

I understand what you're saying here and it's smart but still the idea of a Human and Transformers relationship can still work onscreen if done in a manner like Gargoyles.

You noticed that too, huh? In fact, the first person to bring up sex in this thread was one that's completely against the idea.

I'm starting to think the problem with these topics is not so much the people that bring relationships up, but rather the detractors who derail the topic and devolve it into whining/trolling about robot-on-human sex even when that's not what the original post was talking about.

In regards to the question at hand, the obvious answer to this question is "yes". Humans and Cybertronians have become friends in almost every continuity in this franchise. They're both sentient/sapient species with emotions and similar social structures, so why not? Hell, if anything I don't think we've explored a friendship between an adult human and a Cybertronian enough considering that most of the examples that we've gotten so far don't really show the development of the friendship and instead just plop them into friendship roles.

And regarding romance: There's been a few instances of relationships between members of the two species going beyond friendship (even in the Marvel comics that are much beloved by the fandom!). And again, why not? It doesn't have to be about sex, just deep companionship and love.

Do I want that in TF: Prime or think that it's appropriate for the show? No. There's tons of issues with that, not the least of which being that most of the main human characters are underage. If the more adult-focused comics (under the guidance of the better writers IDW has) decided to try a hand at it, though, I wouldn't have a problem. And I doubt it would entirely take over the comics, get pornographic, and ruin them forever like so many seem to imply.

I have to agree with Cevel; there are way too many immature idiots running around, but that's the Internet for you: anonymity plus a public forum brings out the jerk in way too many people. On top of that, they drag down the folks who have genuine, reasonable objections to the idea.

I have no problem with an emotional relationship, but as Cevel said, it's not likely to happen in Prime due to the reasons listed; the comics or another series are a better idea. Hell, I'd be happy with more adult humans in general instead of the kids.

Please no. I do NOT want to purge if there is a *relationship* between some of them. And you know what I mean when they get -emotional-

What is it with fans and bringing up that *relationship*?! We were going good now until you brought that up again. Sigh.
Can't we just have a simple relationship and not the, um fanfic-inspired 'ship?

Well, I stated in my first post that an emotional relationship CAN exist, just like I have an emotional relationship with my dog and we are of two different species (who don't even speak the same language).

I mentioned that I felt a sexual relationship couldn't and shouldn't work. I took part in "derailing" the thread, however I believe my comment was a good one and no less valid than any other. I certainly didn't interpret the opening post as anything like "Ew, Robots Fuckin'", just to clarify. I don't think that the OP was even specifically asking about a sexual relationship, I just added that into my comment to clarify my thoughts on "emotional relationship" and what I meant when I said it could be done.

I'm not. Romance in and of itself sends me weak at the knees. I just don't want that in Transformers, I will never want that in Transformers.

Friendship, mutual kinship etc.....hell yes! Character rapport is great, intertwining relationships are wonderful and should be a part of the storyline in any good story.

Romance. I think it would be interesting.

It worked for films such as Bicentenial Man, Blade Runner. It worked for the tv series Battlestar Galactica.

And I've watched anime related to it such as Armitage, Outlaw Star, Metropolis(somewhat), Chobits, Battle Angel Alita, El Hazard, Appleseed.

I think all in all, it would be interesting.

Prime was going great until all you weirdo's got ahold of it.

Can't we just enjoy a good series without getting it pregnant?
