I have been looking and watch for this movie: 2012. The graphics look amazing and I was wondering what the community thought about it. Can 2012 beat the Transformers Bay-verse???

Check out the stunning FX on the Official Site and the Exclusive Clip.

EDIT: **This is only for CGI effects not the story, box office, or characters.**

    Coming November 13 :thumbs2:

    No.

2012 is the same as every other disaster movie the director put out.

You already know it's gonna follw the same formula. World begins to end, main character does everything he can to save his family/friends, they end up surviving in the end.

    Yawn.

It looks even dumber than ROTF, so maybe?

Nah, it'll be a moderate Thanksgiving hit, but no chance in hell of beating ROTF.

I don't think any movie this year (or in years past) can compare with RotF in terms of effects. If you've seen any of the "behind-the-scenes" videos or written interview stuff, you'll see that these are the most advanced and complex CGI workings in the history of cinema. From what I've seen of "2012," the effects (in the previews) look too far-fetched to be believable. Transformers makes you think that they somehow actually got real TFs as actors in the movies, down to the last detail (i.e., Jetfire's "beard" scraping tiny rocks across the ground when he moves in close to talk to Simmons).
In terms of box office, 2012 doesn't stand a chance.

Eh, it's pretty standard disaster movie fluff CGI wise. And it's always easier to do bigscale destruction then lifesized stuff.

Really have to disagree there. Judging from the leaked blu-ray, the movie has some truely standout moments and impressive attention to detail, but most of the time it seems rushed and unfinished, and worst of all: Composited badly and poorly blending in with the actual image, like when Prime is standing in the hangar, or when Starscream and Megatron are ontop that skyscraper. Then there is just BAD CGI at some moments, most noticeably in the Nemesis when Megatron grabs Starscream, or the HORRID end fight that has CGI more akin to that of a videogame cutscene. RotF is riddled with moments like that, and it really feels a bit lackluster when compared to the first movie in that regard, which was MUCH stronger effects wise because things were composited in so well.

I never noticed any particularly bad CGI; I thought most of it was flawless. Maybe it's different when you can watch and rewind and pause on the DVD, though, but based on behind-the-scenes technical stuff, they put a ton more time and effort into perfecting the CGI for most of the scenes in the movie (some of it was last-minute, rushed, or re-used).

Why are we comparing two movies that have nothing to do with each other?

    Wait...does 2012 have Go-Bots in it?

I agree there, though the ROTF models were more detailed, I felt the TF1 ones looked more realistic. Almost all of the environment interactions were perfectly done in TF1, and the models themselves had a certain dullness which blended in better with the real shot. I think TF1 had the best CGI effects ever done. ROTF is in the top 5, but I think overall TF1 had stronger effects.

Is from the guy who ruined Godzilla in 1998 !! His movies have the same themes over & over again!! I seriously doubt this so called "FILM" will do any better than TDAT!!

The only good disaster film I had seen of what goes OF DECADE is The 2006 Japanese Disaster movie ''Sinking of Japan''!! I strongly suggest it, is already on Youtube.

NOW that's a disaster movie, Beyond the AWESOME special effects: The actors play the parts pretty well & the story goes respectfully for the enjoyment of the audience...

MY GOD, even the romance is done well, WITH NO NEED OF OVER DOING IT WITH SEX !! Pretty rare now days!!

Now tell me: when we have seen a Disaster film done well ?? In 20 years.... Titanic !!

Does TF have CGI? Does 2012 have CGI? I think the question was about the FX not characters.

Well personally, I don't mind either way. 2012 might even have better special effects, but they don't have big transforming robots, so ROTF is where my preference goes.

Just on nothing but the effects alone I may have to give the nod to 2012.

At points in Transformers you really had the very best of the best that Hollywood could do at the time. But then other scenes didn't feel like they were totally finished and sort of stuck out when you compared them to the highly polished scenes.

Transformers also had a bit of that problem again of a camera in the wrong spot for the best shot, still some too much grit in the air, not enough lighting, or too close. Although overall they did improve in these areas over the first film.

As to the rest of the stuff on 2012 I don't know because I'm thinking about just skipping the movie. I'm rather burned out on films that are about nothing but the visuals so I'm looking for films with a bit more substance until next summer starts another cycle of nothing going but the visuals.
