A very simple question. Doe's anyone have faith that it can manage to do it where others have failed?

Alien 3 (had numerous problems while filming)
Terminator 3(it was received nicely by the movie critics, but the people who aren't movie critics don't care for it,most of them)
Back To The Future 3 (no one likes it)
X-Men:The Last Stand (no need to say more about it)
    Spiderman 3 (look above)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (look above)
    Batman Forever (look above)
    Superman 3 (pure crap)

I'll stop there at some threequels that went wrong.

I think it can because there's a clean slate, there was no writers strike, and because I think Ehren is at least more of a fan of Transformers than Roberto and Alex put together.

Hey Back to the Future 3 is my favorite of the three! LOL.

What about Spiderman 3 and Pirates 3? They were so so.

Well what I'm hoping they do isn't so much as break the curse but rather just rearrange it a bit. As usually, the second movie is the best of the series which leaves the third having a lot to hype to live up to causing it's inevitable failure. But with Transformers, since the second film was so bad, this means the third one doesn't have those high standards to live up to giving it plenty more room to be awesome. So where usually the trilogy curse goes "good, better, bad" Transformers will hopefully go "good, bad, better".

Pirates 3,I never saw the appeal of any of the POTC movies. I already mentioned Spiderman 3.

First off, your list of "bad" sequels is so wrong that it borders on offensive. I'd check again on whether or not no one liked Back to the Future 3.

Secondly, the third film needs to do what Last Crusade did for the Indy films - help the series go out with a bang. If they can do this without critically flopping like ROTF, I think they'll be able to win film fans AND casual moviegoers over.

Although I never thought that ROTF was bad as a whole,I'm going to have to agree with you on the arrangement of good, bad, better in regards to the Transformers movies.

Return of the Jedi and Return of the King would like a word with you.

Honestly though, I think they need to re-evaluate what they want to do with the movie and focus on story rather than spectacle in order to make it an improvement over the other two. That being said, however, I think it unlikely that this will happen.

Isn't that one of the most well-regarded threequels of all time?

Anyway, if Spielberg can get Bay to get his sh!t together this time, it could very well be the best of the trilogy. It won't take much to be better than ROTF, and if care is taken it could beat TF1's 57% tomatometer rating.

I don't see how my list is bad,for the most part, what I really meant about BTTF 3 was that for the most part no one likes it.

ROTF,only needed 37% more to be on par with Transformers 57%,57% divided by 2 is 28.5%. Since movies are always bound to get mixed reviews no matter, how high the T-Meter Critics is,I would have been even happy if the movie got around 50% on RT.

Why would those two well regarded movies be on my list? I know that they aren't threequels that didn't go wrong.

Because it seems like your argument is based around threequels being a recipe for disaster, and there being examples of 3rd films going right makes it appear like theres less of a "curse", wouldnt you say?

I mean, you might as well say theres a sequel curse, since theres plenty of "______ II" movies that are terrible too.

Dont get me wrong, I dont exactly have high hopes for TF 3, but I dont think its any more likely to be bad because its a third film, than I think its likely going to be bad for the same reasons ROTF was.

edit:^^^ Ewoks are awesome and you sir are wrong in your statement.

Really? REALLY? That movie should not EVER be on a list of bad movies, threequels or not, especially considering how BTTF 2 was somewhat lackluster as a sequel.

Plus your claim that nobody likes that movie is wrong, since examining these responses indicate that at least a few people like it, and a quick internet reveals that RottenTomatoes gives BTTF 3 a rating above 70% at the time of this post. I'm betting other movie sites have similar ratings for the movie as well.

Er, simply because he's more of a fan doesn't mean it will be a good threequel, especially if you only think he is a bigger fan. The slate isn't as clean, either, since Hasbro will certainly want to push screentime for Prime and Bumblebee because of their popularity (and that means more money), which will cut into time given to other Transformers.

No, the Ewoks didn't defeat the Empire simply because they took out some troops and chickenwalkers, or even because they helped the Rebels destroy the Death Star again.

The Empire ended when Darth Vader killed Palpatine. No more emperor, no more empire. The Ewoks had nothing to do with it.
