Hi, and thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this. I know that Universe Ironhide can be modified so that his head rises up fully in robot mode so that he isn't looking downwards all the time, but I don't understand how to do this.

I have very little experience with modifying figures and no extra cash to replace Ironhide if I screw him up. (Not to metion if I could find him again anyway.) So I want to make sure I get it right the first time.

Can someone here help me? Possibly with pics? Thanks again.

I'd check around the Repaint and Minor Mod section- I think a few people have modded Ironhide with success.

Unless someone had come up with ideas that I'm not aware of, you can't modify Ironhide to make the head fully rise up. There are some things you can do the have it rise further but not completely up. There are 3 points of contact that is preventing the head from rising fully. First is the gray "spinal column" portion hitting against the rear bumper/inside of the chest. You can shave some of the "spinal column" down to help with this portion. Second is the red piece that the windshield attaches to. That piece hits against the rear wheel wells. You can shave off a portion of that red piece and this would help it. Finally the third part is the rear wheels themselves hit against the windshield. This part I have not been able to figure out a way to fix as you can't shave off the wheels and you can shave off the windshield (at least without it effecting the looks). What you can do is leave the wheels as is (not flipped back) if you don't mind the wheels being visible under the torso. Even then, you can't shave off the "spinal" enough for full head extension. You will end up with a limp spinal if you shave too much. This head problem is a major design flaw. I think the only way to really fix it is to have the head be able to rotate up independent of the "spinal" moving down.

Per your advise I've shaved the "spinal column" down and just like you said, there are other points of contact that interfere as well. However, shaving the spine has helped raise the head up at least a little bit more. It's not exactly what I'd like, but at least Ironhide doesn't look like he's depressed! Thanks for the help.

Just got Ironhide. I popped his waist apart at the swivel joint (you know, like, his waist) and noticed that without his lower body attached, the head swings into place perfectly.

Clearly, this is not a magic-bullet-type solution, but it does lead me to believe that some trimming where the waist section meets the real bumper might do the job.

PS, on mine, the rear wheel-wells and the weapon storage peg don't seem to interfere at all.

Edit: Never mind, rear wheels still in the way. Bummer.
