He was an original character, so there was little baggage to put on him; he was a fresh new guy who immediately got popular.

He didn't appear too much, but he was awesome in all/most of his appearances.

Changing times meant people identify more with a police car being a Decepticon rather than an Autobot (I'd hoped Prowl could make an appearance in the films to counter Barricade though).

    He was a badass Mustang

His introductory chase scene in 2007 was kickass

He was the first Con to play whack-a Sam

He's the only original 2007 Con to survive Bayverse (sans Megatron) :D

He's popular with me because he was my very first Transformers figure, so he's had a sweet spot in my heart for a long time. That and he was an evil cop car.

I think it might be similar to the "Boba Fett phenomenon" I've seen people debate in Star Wars circles...it's an imposing, somewhat mysterious character that at least appears to have the potential to be a memorable character. And remember, like Boba Fett, Barricade seemed to come out of nowhere, only had a few brief lines, then was disposed of rather efficiently...just a brief glimpse of a seemingly really cool character that just begs for a backstory and more exploration. It made me excited to see his inclusion in TLK, even though he was utilized and featured equally as brief as he was in the first film. I read somewhere that he was in DOTM, but honestly, it's been so long since I've seen it that I really don't remember...

For me personally, it comes down to the whole dichotomy of an evil Decepticon taking on the disguise or appearance of a police vehicle, a symbol of those that are supposed to uphold the law. To me it was just clever, especially the subtle "to punish and enslave" logo in place of "to serve and protect"...for me Barricade perfectly embodied the intimidating and aggressive nature of the Decepticons. In addition, I simply love his new look and design in TLK; he's still very imposing and vicious-looking, but more humanoid at the same time...like an alien cross between a UFC fighter, WWE wrestler, and the most brutal-looking officer you've ever seen.

-Fought Bumblebee and didn't die. Twice.
    -A rude, enthusiastic boy.
-A resourceful boy who has survived every movie so far.
    -An asthetically pleasing boy.

Yep it's the Boba Fett effect.

Take a character that has something visually cool going on. In the case of Barricade it's his alt mode as an evil cop car with the cool ass motto "To Punish And Enslave". Give the viewer just enough to start building some sort of mental picture of the character. But don't give them too much information so that their imagination will run wild to fill in the blanks.

I get the fishy feeling that Barricade was in TLK to promote the Bumblebee movie.

I think I like the character because biographies basically describe him as a trickster of sorts. The police car alt mode is a cover up to his sinister self. Maybe he survived because he fooled some folks into thinking he was a poor bot injured from the battle of Chicago.

    wat

    that can't be true

I remember one bio saying Barricade was a good spy, but not a very good fighter. Despite this he keeps throwing himself into fights he can't win.
    Was kinda funny.

    echoing what many have said...

his mysterious continuity plays a large role into his popularity i believe

despite his absence in rotf he was very much active in the comics & idk...it kind of gave him this mysterious allure & factor that in with him somehow always surviving against the odds (even though he's only a glorified hench!) & he's become somewhat of an anomaly in the filmverse..i think a lot of his attraction comes from that in my opinion

Coincidence that Barricade and Blackout were both nobodies in G1 and are thus the reinventions that people bitch the least about?

    Barricade is among my favorites.
    I dig Mustangs.
    I liked his bot mode.
    I liked his screen presence.
Sight unseen, I really cannot wait to get his MPM.

I'm just wondering...will his MPM figure be the original version or his TLK self? I personally prefer the latter, although either one would be welcome...

I know it sounds crazy but it is true lol
What's even crazier is that it has 200 chapters and still not marked as complete!
