this winter I decided to start playing the snes again. I got one at the end of its cycle for the squaresoft rpgs. I'm wondering what are some good games I might've missed. I've already got super metroid, lufia, the mario games, and zelda. anything else?

also, if you're a fan of the genesis or tg-16, what were some of the best games for those systems. I had them during their heyday, so I think I have all the goodies that came out for them (ranger-x, baby!) but wanted to see other's opinions too.

If you're going the emulation route at all, I highly suggest you do yourself a favour and get yourself a translated ROM of Tales of Phantasia.

thanks coldheart, I'm gonna check into that racing game, I LOVED rc pro am. I've got or heard of most of the others. I'm definitely looking for maybe some sleeper/obscure titles. although I suppose if they were that good to begin with, I'd probably heard of them by now.

The X-Men game for the SNES is pretty cool too.

For the Genisis I'd say Chakan: The Forever Man, Eternal Champions, Alien Soldier (Followup to Gunstar Heroes. It's Japanese, but completely in English), the Shining series (Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force 1&2), the Valis series (Valis 1, 2, and 3 on the Genisis, and Super Valis 4 on the SNES), and Xmen 1&2.

there's something about the original super mario kart that just can't be duplicated, so i'd recommend that. i loved both of the original breath of fire games, although they are a bit outdated, they are still pretty fun. illusion of gaia is a pretty fun zelda-ish game. i also find the snes wwf games a guilty pleasure...

With an emulator I would recomend the transulated Dragon Quest 6. It was an awesome game.

I remember playing a game with a space-jet that turns into a robot and you and a team are infiltrating some sort of planet. Cant remember the name of it but I really enjoyed it.

Personally my favorite 16bit game was Pacific Theatre of Operations for the Genesis (although it did come out for the SNES also). Koei has made a few sequels for this game, but none have been nearly as deep as the original was.

To play all the great insanely hard to find/expensive you'll need a time machine or an emulator. I recommend Terranigma as far as Zelda clones are concerned.

If you like RPGs based on proper pen + paper systems, then i'd recommend Buck Rodgers - Countdown to Doomsday on the Mega Drive as well.

I'm still waiting for another game where you can go pirateing enemy ships between the storyline missions.

Nah, why risk a pesky virus and endless porn popup ads when you can wait a bit and play it on GBA or DS ! That's what I'm doing.

As for SNES games, you can't go wrong with Secret of Mana. That's what strangely has my interest.

Yep.. Good gaming PC, PS2, GC, Xbox, DS.. And I've gone back to my SNES.

    For the Genesis / Mega-Drive I recommend:

Kid Chameleon (perhaps the best game for the megadrive)
    Toe Jam & Earl
    Road Rash II
All the Sonics (1,2,3, Sonic and Knuckles, Sonic Spinball, Sonic 3D)
    NBA Jam
    Earthworm Jim 1 and 2
    Cool Spot
    Jungle Strike

I would say those are some of the best.

I don't have as much experience with the SNES, but I can recommend Donkey Kong and all the Marios. That's about all I own.

I know a few sites where I can obtain the game without either...

And besides, there's something that's just much more impressive about hearing the theme song on the original SNES hardware. We all know full well the GBA can pull that sort of stuff without breaking a sweat (since Square-Enix already encoded the full-length "Simple and Clean" track onto Chains of Memories).

And meanwhile, I'm still waiting for the fan translation of the PSX version...

Get yourself the Super Scope, and play the following games:
    Super Scope 6
    Battleclash

    Then, after that, I'd say:
    Star Fox
    Super Metroid
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (okay, I like this one, I know it sucks, get over it)
    Final Fantasy II
    Final Fantasy III
    Ranma 1/2
Super Street Fighter II Turbo (forget all the previous versions, save money and look for this final one)
    Mortal Kombat
    Mortal Kombat II
    Mortal Kombat III
    Ultimate Mortal Kombat III
    Mario Is Missing
    Mario's Time Machine
    Ninja Gaiden Trilogy
    King Of The Monsters
    King Of The Monsters II
    Mega Man X
    Mega Man X2
    Mega Man X 3
    Mega Man 7

Get yourself an SNES Mouse / Mousepad and play Mario Paint

Also, you can't forget the Super Game Boy. Use it to play all your Game Boy Games (pre GB Color of course).

Super Turbo was never ported to a 16-bit home platform.
