So, I'm in the process of slowly customizing a bunch of Titans Return figures (mostly for 'upgrade partners' methods), but a lot of that is going to be a matter of finding the right way to modify them for better holds or heavy repaints and the like, given that they'll be recolored and modified to be working teams. However, I'm also modifying some Combiner Wars figures slowly over time, and Power of the Primes figures, most notably the Dinobot gestalt, Volcanicus. I do not have a 3d printer, but I will be purchasing some upgrade kits and parts, Reprolabels, paint, spare parts and the like as befitting a given project. That said, I'll be updating this particular thread with any customization work that I do. The majority are minor/repaints, so I guess that'll be the best prefix, though some will be heavy later...

Starting off this thread, Volcanicus with part of a backpack configuration. This particular one doesn't actually have any modifications done at all so far, though I already know I'll be getting the Reprolabels as they come out (I have the first two but not applied yet, and Grimlock's just came out today), Ariel's Customs' Extinction Blade, G1 inspired guns, and Slash Weapons Accessories, as well as Prize Inside by The Octavirate Forge's Slash Wings and PotP Battle Claw, and Heirofthedog's Slash Raptor Claws. I also plan to integrate two other figures modified from basic Slash figures after they arrive in the mail (since I got lucky to buy the one I got when the wave first started), use Titans Return Grimlock and Swoop, and do a fair bit of battle damage and dark wash before applying the Reprolabels. In my mind, the Dinobots faced Shockwave and all manner of things that would wear on them over time, and their attitude across the different media they've been in seems to suggest they'd only get something repaired if it actually hindered them. I mean, they fish by standing in water within the G1 Cartoon, and in the G1 Marvel Comics they were buried in tar, among other similar instances. As you can see from the different angles I took, Slash's legs go into the hole Volcanicus' head flips down into, with the back flap normally holding it in place being under Slash's legs. Fairly simple so far, letting her hold two weapons from the configuration. Sharing that first since I hadn't seen anyone else showing that option off, and it holds fairly easily while not offsetting the weight balance or posability of the head or arms.

When I have the figure fully combined I'll take some better pictures before starting on the painting process. Now for some other modified figures and progress shots.

Here we have one I don't have a name for yet... One of the upgrade partners, a pair of salvage operations specialists who also do a bit of ruin exploration from time to time. This one is obviously an unfinished reworking of Titans Return Scourge. I flipped the legs for a heavy-boot look, put an unpainted Nautica head (from before Nautica was released) on it, switched out the arms for War Within Generations Starscream's arms, drilled a hole in the main gun so the smaller one could be put in on the bottom, and gave it a couple of spare parts I had lying around from old garage sale acquisitions (probably not from Transformers figures even). The part in her left hand looks a bit like a wrench when in bot mode, like a gun in vehicle mode. The spike looks like a protrusion of some kind, but in bot mode looks like a club. I'm going to do a bit of dremel work to alter the chest and waist a bit, and give it a repaint. Also shown is my Nautica figure holding two of the smaller Titans Return weapon figures, Nightbeat (with Getaway's head) connected to Shuffler (with Scourge's head inside it). I'll be modifying the two weapon figures and heads to be an old sherpa sort (Scourge) and a determined crazy engineer (Getaway). Nautica herself has some modifications I got from Prize Inside by The Octavirate Forge (for the wrench) and the closed Loachridge (Nautica's front and arm alteration) Shapeways shops. Even with the modifications... Titans Return Nautica (And Arcee for that matter, but more on that some later point) really feels like a different figure to me than the character in the comics. The design is okay, but I look at it more as a different character, and hope a different Nautica version comes out at some future point that feels more like the way she is in the IDW comics. That said, she'll be getting some modifications as well, and is the one that'll wear the Scourge custom figure as an upgrade. She'll get a new name, still not set on what yet.

    ArcSoft_Image18.jpg ArcSoft_Image13.jpg ArcSoft_Image14.jpg

Next we have Skert, a modified Titans Return Hot Rod, spoiler removed, painting started, hole under the spoiler modified for holding a Titans Return figure modified into a Targetmaster (who works folded up or unfolding the legs to balance Titans Return Hot Rod's merged guns), and the head swapped out with Quake's own. To me, the head looked a bit like a butch woman rather than masculine, and to some extent, so does Skullsmasher's head if it gets some accenting to highlight some aspects. It also looks a bit like a pilot helmet, so it is going on Triggerhappy's body, which hasn't had modifications yet, but is the figure that'll be named Danger once finished, and she'll wear Skert as an upgrade partner. Using just friction alone, I've taken some images of Skert n' Danger, seen immediately after Skert. As you can see, the Targetmaster (no name yet) fits into Skert's 5mm hole on the arm, and Triggerhappy's combined gun fits atop it just like with Skert's vehicle mode.

    ArcSoft_Image23.jpg ArcSoft_Image24.jpg ArcSoft_Image25.jpg ArcSoft_Image25.jpg

Well, I've got quite a few other figures I'm modifying that I haven't started taking pictures of, but it is late and I work in the morning, so I'll leave off there for now. Hope someone there likes the concepts at least, even if the execution is still far from finished. I know I keep saying upgrade partners, but I don't have a better term, since they don't really feel like Duocons (even for the more Decepticon-leaning concepts), and they aren't Combiner Teams. For the partnering, I've got a few others without pictures yet:

Takara Kup with Quake's body (going to try to make it closer to Kup's coloration because I do want him unpainted and unmodified except battlescars and Repolabels, and maybe something to make his Takara Targetmaster have a little centering piece that'll pivot up and down. Quake will be the upgrade and has two targetmasters that combine for a larger gun, gained from Prize Inside by The Octavirate Forge's Shapeways)

Hardhead with Chromedome (Going to get a desert theming, making Chromedome more influenced by scarabs for design aesthetics as the upgrade, and Hardhead's cannon also having the merged Skytread and Overboard on it)

Arcee with Getaway (Getaway modified closer to Minerva, going to modify Arcee into a somewhat Paradron Medic aesthetic as having them be battlefield medics with the modified Arcee being the upgrade)

Topspin with Blurr (Blurr is the upgrade here, not entirely sure on the coloring and such yet. They work well together with their current coloration since their primary blues are similar, though not the same... Not entirely certain in their regard yet on modifications)

Grotesque with Twin Twist (Twin Twist is the upgrade here, I think I'll try to make him closer compliment Grotesque's colors somehow...)

Brainstorm with Skullsmasher (Inspired by Grimlockimus's Krok 2.0, I am taking my modified Brainstorm turned Slipstream and making Skullsmasher's modified figure an upgrade for her. The only thing that'll be annoying is the springy part on Skullsmasher's back in beast mode, because that isn't the same type of material as the rest, rather closer to rubber, annoyingly... I already had modified Skullsmasher with a part from ADVENTOYS on Shapeways that lets his beast mode legs tuck into the back of his leg, which wil also help with the silhouette when modified...)

I've got a Gestalt Combiner Wars mashup that I've got a bit of modification to do and painting, and each figure on it will be a headmaster as well once I'm finished, and I might at some point get around to painting Armada Unicron, though he is still decent even though I'd want to make him have The Transformers: The Movie coloration and details. I've also got some third party appliance bots I'm going to make look like Junkion allies, Scout Hubcap that'll get a similar treatment, and one Movieverse Bumblebee given as a gift a while back that I'm slowly making look Junkion/Mad Max styled who I need to take some pictures of since the details are looking decent so far.

Your figures look pretty neat but your model looks less than thrilled about his job.

Solid effort. Is that a GI Joe MCC missile being used as a club?

    (Seems I can't even quote someone until I have 10 posts... >.< )

Sadly the model there is me, nursing a head cold, stuffed up nose, and weariness. After trying to get decent lighting, focus on the webcam, and sneezing making the pictures blurry from the figures shaking... I just picked the best of poor pictures. Thanks for the compliment on the effort regardless. I'll be taking better pictures as able soon.

As for the club, it is! It was in a bag of mixed GIJoe accessories and other unknown 80s you accessories, some of which I knew were Transformers parts. I just looked on an identification website when you mentioned it. Unfortunately I only have the one of that kind, but I think I also have one of the longer ones that looks like a common enough missile type.

Neat. The mixed bag of parts... not the head cold.

    Here's to future pictures.

More pictures coming soon. Yeah, I was surprised too at not seeing it before, guess I just missed your upload on Tuesday to the Fan-Mode Thread. Personally, I'm going to use Reprolabels and 3d printed parts, but not the Perfect Effect kits. First, because a lot of people are going to go for it, and second, because I actually didn't like them from their look, rather spending the money on the Extinction Blade than the kit.

All right, still not the best pictures, but they're still WIP on all of them.

First we have Topspin upgraded by Blur.
    ArcSoft_Image27.jpg ArcSoft_Image28.jpg ArcSoft_Image29.jpg

Next we have Slipstream (Customized from Brainstorm) upgraded by Skullsmasher, as well as images of her separately.
    ArcSoft_Image30.jpg ArcSoft_Image41.jpg ArcSoft_Image32.jpg
    ArcSoft_Image33.jpg ArcSoft_Image34.jpg ArcSoft_Image35.jpg

Minerva upgraded by Arcee (will be Paradron-inspired medic)
    ArcSoft_Image37.jpg ArcSoft_Image38.jpg
    ArcSoft_Image39.jpg ArcSoft_Image40.jpg

Kup, upgraded by Quake... Except with Tarn's faceplate. Plan on making it more a different dedicated Decepticreep that was POW with Kup on some world, had to work together, etc, for the character it'll be.
    ArcSoft_Image42.jpg ArcSoft_Image43.jpg ArcSoft_Image44.jpg
    ArcSoft_Image45.jpg ArcSoft_Image47.jpg ArcSoft_Image48.jpg

Next we have Skytread and Overboard by themselves as a combined gun...
    ArcSoft_Image49.jpg ArcSoft_Image50.jpg

And now attached to Hardhead's main cannon, with Chromedome as the upgrade.
    ArcSoft_Image51.jpg ArcSoft_Image52.jpg ArcSoft_Image54.jpg
    ArcSoft_Image55.jpg ArcSoft_Image56.jpg

    Grotesque, upgraded by Twin Twist
    ArcSoft_Image57.jpg ArcSoft_Image58.jpg
    ArcSoft_Image59.jpg ArcSoft_Image60.jpg

And finally we have Dauber. Unfortunately, in the process of transforming him, one of the ridge pieces on the hood flew off and was lost, and the windshield finally snapped, but is held in place by tape until I can epoxy it. I used parts from a broken G1 Optimus Prime reissue, a few plastic pieces I found in a parking lot of a Target once, and quite a bit of use of a soldering gun to make burn holes, dremel for other battle damage, netting for helping apply the 'rust' sparingly, and a bit of knife etching and soldering iron use for the glass to have the breaks in it. I honestly have had it for two years without any issues when transforming it until today, where one piece nudged another out of place that was supposed to be locked in position until later... Snapping the remaining windshield piece and making the hood shift in my grip, launching off the other smaller piece. I always liked the junkion aesthetic, so even though I didn't particularly like the Bayverse figures all that much (for the most part. I like High Score 100, Ejector, Nitro Zeus, and Cogman. I have the first three of those, I don't have Cogman yet...), when I got Bumblebee as a gift and had some junker parts around... Well, I decided I'd give him a shot as my first real customization. I like how he turned out, even if the plastic is so bloody cheap. Now that I have PotP Jazz, I might actually give him the modifications to become a new one, because I'm turning Rook, Scrounge, Cybaxx, Onslaught, an already modified legends Groove, and a couple other figures into a Junkion-styled combiner I'm going to call Salvage.

Still working on customizations, though slower to take pictures since they're further from completion for many. However, this one just made me proud to have as far along as it is so far...

I used a Combiner Wars Dust-Up for a custom I'm making, 'Sunchaser'. I still haven't finished painting it (barely started, actually, but waiting on parts to come in), but I've used a dremel tool to make parts much more posable, turn it into a titan master and prime master as well as a combiner, and with a pair of balljoint hands commissioned from Treadshot A1, she's able to support her weight when dangling from one hand with ease... But also able to do a one-handed handstand like shown in the picture below, without any additional supports.
