lil somethin to chew on
here's a piece of concept art for my "Classics" project
Very good work! Would love to see more!
underwater vehicle? nice art though. keep it up!
heh no.thats just a whatever bkg. not intended to be water
tho if it works guess ill have to think about doing water bkgs this way or something xD
hehe, thanks all!
Nice! I wouldn't want him parking too close to me though with those pointy bits at the front!!
Its a good cybertronian version that keeps the asthetics close to earth mode Prime. You going to do Ultra Magnus with a different trailer?
Crazy and cool all at the same time.
Good work Josh.
NIce! I like it, I love to see Cybertrinan alt modes...being this is a fan version makes it even sweeter! Well done Josh!
Cool! How does the bot mode look?
not sure how the bot mode looks just yet havent designed it
awsome dude can't wait
Loving your art as always. Very impressed with this sketch.
I have 2 questions for ya and i figured here'd be as good a place as any to ask them, hope you don't mind.
1. Does this C L A S S I C S sketch have anything to do with the origin story you mentioned you'd been working on?
2. You've provided us with online tutorials for your colouring process but i for one but be very interested in seeing your inking process. I think it's excellent and unique and would love to see what's involved... especially since yo don't use a tablet.
classics star convoy?
to be perfectly honest, i dont like it actually, which considerable since i mostly like your designs.
the shape is undistinctive and the morphology - study of form - does not suggest functionality e.g. aerodynamics and such.
i'd elaborate if your interested.
edit: the above post made me realize tho, that if your intention was to emulate/invoke star convoy's aesthetic, it works.
this sketch has to do with the "classics" project im workin on
what it is is its gonna be a webcomic. Just my take on what i think they shoulda done with the Classics toys in giving them a story. I had actually been working on this before i had heard about the botcon stuff but from what ive seen/read so far im kind of left unimpressed xD so i guess it further drives me to put this out
its gonna be fully scripted, drawn, and colored by me with letters by my friend MachSaber
I guess for me its more of a personaly project. I've only attempted drawing comic sequential pages once or twice before and this is the project to push me into trying to get the hang of it. I'll be writing it too just because ive got some rad ideas floatin around [that and Nick Roche's recent success with writing/drawing the Kup spotlight has kind of inspired me]
ultimately i plan to show the completed pages to Chris Ryall at IDW. I know a lot of people, and myself, have been hoping to see me draw something published wise [instead of just coloring] so i'm hoping once i complete this, it'll kind of push me over the edge, so to speak, and get me to draw something
as far as tutorials, cant say i really have anything in the works. In fact to answer you, i've never inked a picture a day in my life. i always go straight from pencils to colors, but if you're interested in seeing the progression of this Classics Lio Kaiser picture i'm working on definately check out this thread i posted here:
im just updating it with screenshots kinda just showing the creative process thats goes into a piece like that
KA, by all means elaborate
like i mentioned, this is just concept art. Im still not entirely happy with the design myself
but shoot me a PM! lets toss some ideas around or something if you have any
ok. i dont have any specific/direct suggestions, but heres some stuff for you to consider when designing (outside of reference specific to TF design):
- the purpose of the vehicle. is it for speed? for utility? for military? while it may seem obvious, the shape/motif of the design should immediate suggest its use (even when functional components arent immediately apparent). lines/silhoutte may suggest such qualities like aggresive, passive, etc.
- the class of the vehicle. the design should be able to indicate whether the vehicle is an advance design or a more basic design. this implies the distinction between a sophiticated and a simple design.
those are 2 aspect off the top of my head. theres prolly more, somebody with a background in industrial/mechanical design would have better advice.
try googling up syd mead. dude is a legend in the field as far as concept work goes.
