Apologies if this alteration has been posted before (say, around the time C-Hot Shot came out), but I was fiddling around with my new Excellion and made a small modification to add some extra articulation to the arms:

    (1) The focus is the little orange tab circled in the image below:

These tabs form part of the vehicle mode front wheel wells. However, in robot mode, they run into the shoulder pads and prevent the arms from being raised at all where they connect to the shoulder pads (one of the transformation joints).

    (2) Shoulderpads were easy enough to remove with a screwdriver and there aren't any intricate pieces within the shoulder:

Once the arms are excised from the shoulders, a hobby knife or Exacto can be used to shave the offending tabs down flush with the upper arm.

    (3) Reassemble the shoulders.

    (4) Below is a comparison shot of the articulation. The right arm has the tab removed, the left arm doesn't. Both arms are raised to their maximum at the transformation joints:

    (5) Below are some shots with both arms modified:

    (6) As far as I've seen, the alteration has no effect on the transformation to vehicle mode or stability in either mode and doesn't negatively impact the vehicle appearance, IMO.

Neat! I had no idea that Hot Shot/Excellion's arms couldn't move outward (then again, I don't own either one). I might do this whenever I pick up Excellion.

I'd also like to see pics of how he looks in vehicle mode post-alteration.

Pretty cool. Don't think I'll do it to mine though, double jointed shoulders is more than I need. I would like to see a car mode shot though.

    Done and done!

First up is a shot of the vehicle mode pre-alteration:

Second is a wide shot of the vehicle mode post-alteration:

Finally, a close-up (as close as I could get my digital camera, anyway) of the vehicle front:

EDIT - Added a picture of the disassembled shoulder to the first post.

The part that you cut off was supposed to be the continuation of the front wheel wall in the alt mode, it looks a bit weird, I think I'll leave mine alone and play with the Cybertron Defense version more :)

I tried doing that with Hot Shot, and it just made his vehicle mode look terrible IMO, so I eventually bought another one to replace the one I butchered.

One worthwhile mod to make is to his "skirt". The sides in particular restrict leg movement too much, so I sawed most of the side skirts off, leaving only about 2-3 millimetres of it, with a gentle slope leading towards the front hip panels.

    Greatly improved his leg articulation.

Paint the orange piece in the fender gold to match the flame and your good to go.

Im all up for better poseability ideas, especially for that mold as cool as it is.
Mx's idea of shaving his pelvis sounds like a good mod
