Anyone know why this figure is so darn expensive. You can find him loose and sealed pretty easy but the prices are quite high compared to others. I just purchased a MISB botcon exclusive Sandstorm less than what a scorponok sells for and Sandstorm is more rare....
I think it has a large part due to his easily broken bee missile launcher. The thing breaks like nothing. I bought a Takara one sealed at BotCon for a pretty penny.
Also simply based on the fact that its the best version of the character we have. Most other BW characters have had more show accurate releases through the 10th anniversary and Telemocha lines. You'll notice this price hike with regular Rattrap and Terrorsaur as well.
Oh, I've seen the 10th anniversary ones but how do I identify the telemocha ones, like the packaging etc?
although unless you are a REALLY big Blackarachnia fan I'd say Optimus & Rhinox are the only Telemocha you need
And if you don't want to pay the insane prices for a Telemocha Blackarachnia it's incredibly easy to custom paint the original Blackarachnia to be almost indistinguishable from the Telemocha. You really only need black and gold paint. That's what I did, and it turned out great!
The cheapest I've seen one go for is about $48. Last time I checked there aren't even any on ebay, and the ones on amazon are over $100. In fact, it's rare to see any telemochas of any character at all on ebay.
Actually, I know exactly what happened. There's this asshole on eBay who goes by Playdia, and a few years ago he would overbid on almost everything from BW through Cybertron. He bought multiples of everything, and one of these was, you guessed it: BW Scorponok. He bought every single one that was listed below $35 by bidding insane amounts, like $50. Then, he had the nerve to re-list everything for at least $10 more. As a result, if you didn't outbid Playdia, you had to buy it from him or look outside eBay. Since everyone uses eBay as a price-gauge now, the eBay value became the standard value. That douche managed to artificially inflate prices on tons of figures before he (probably) ran out of money. I fought that dick for a Scorponok several times, and I still don't have one.
If you have any other questions about Beast Era toys, be it the Telemocha line or anything else, you should check out the Beast Wars Appreciation thread. It's usually within the first 1-3 pages in this forum since it's frequented often and there a lot of people who can offer insight regarding all sorts of Beast Era toys.
If this is true, it was to total dick move. Even though I'm still a little skeptical... How could one dude possibly buy up all those figures?! There must have been like hundreds available. And why? Just for a $10 price mark-up? There have got to be easier ways to make money. I'm not calling you a liar, this just seems incredible...
I used to have the Telemocha Megatron, a repaint of the Robot Masters version sealed and signed by David Kaye. I wish I had sold it on ebay rather than here. I didn't want to sell it for as low as I did.
Someone was doing that for Powermaster Dreadwind a while back. Drove the price up to like $200, I don't think anyone ever figured out why.
me thinks i got a a deal for the loose complete (w/ functional bee) one i snagged for $40 at a local vintage toy shop a while back.
