No, there are the kids that enjoy the hobby without their parents.

I play with my toys - that's sort of the point of them really if I just wanted to buy something to display I'd buy Smurfs or something similarly immovable instead.

A Toys flaws don't vex so much if your just going to look at it it's only when you play with things you realise Hasbro are so often saving up children's disappointment.

I think anyone lucky enough to be a kid in the 80's or early 90's got the high point of toy bang for your buck. I think Toys are not really going anywhere at the moment (most lines aimed at kids that Mattel make these days are complete crap for example I.e they are still selling some of the same Hotwheels cars they did 30 years ago and have you seen Green Lantern Figures - they define awful perfectly) in a way I suppose Transformers is sometimes a line able to trancend a downward curve and there has been some improvements in toy articulation in the 00's but I can't help but think MASK or Starcom were just better than some of what you see these days (i.e you get a substantial toy for your money not a small expensive lump - like with Beyblades).

But then I know some people think the same way about 70's toys and I always thought they were crazy - so I guess those who grew up in the later 90's or the 00's will say anyone older is crazy too (will they be spilling the love of Bakugan online in some decades time ?) and saying Thundercats, MASK, Gi Joe, Action Man, Starcom, Skeleton Warriors, Robotix, Wheeled Warriors, Roadblasters, Keycars, Battlebeasts, Eggbeasts, Robotech, Gobots, Captain Power, Rocklords, MOTU, Kenner's Aliens/Jurrassic Park/ Terminator/ Batman lines etc was all rubbish ?.

Or will things like Lego and perhaps Transformers and Gi Joe cross the Decades and generations into the Future.

Sometimes looking back is good I notice they have now swapped Bratz dolls back to they way the looked 8 Years ago rather they deformed pixie look they had a few years ago.

I can give an example of a good toyline from the late 90's early 00's and that is Galoobs Action Fleet/Battlesquads line. I'm still mad at Hasbro for buying Galloob out just so they could kill them off and they pretty much ignore or mishandle the lines they inherited for years afterwards.

Anyway the 80's and early 90's seems like a pretty good era for toys to me.

Oh and if you don't own any Starcom toys you should go on e-bay and buy some right now they are brilliant.

well, as the threadstarter I guess it falls on me to pass the verdict.

I would say yes. Sure we have one or 2 that fit the stereotype, but I'd say that overall there are several different kinds of transformers collectors on here - most prominantly 2 groups: (going to generalize quite a bit here)

Judging by the answers, I can say that collecting transformers is pretty much a guy thing. (seriously girls, whats up with the lack of replies to this thread?)

One of the groups is the 30+ people with enough income to get by, in relationships or have kids/kids on the way (grats you guys on being fathers-to-be) who seem to be mainly focused on g1 and chug.

The second group are the younger collectors who live at home seem to be more into movieverse, for the most part single and "use them for their designated purpose as someone said in a reply".

I am really impressed by the younger audience who spend a vast majority of their income on TFs, and not only movieverse, but some have gotten into G1, and that really impressed me. Shows a real dedication to collecting.

And not only did you guys prove that the stereotype is wrong, but you took it one step further and showed us that you are loving fathers, caregivers, husbands (even though a certain someone is it reluctantly) and boyfriends.

    So yeah...stereotype busted

I'd get some C.H.U.G, but TF cost a lot of money in Aus and most of my collection is from Birthday and Christmas presents.
