    It's a universal problem.

and its only going to get worse. he's made out of nothing but swirly gold plastic, so he'll completely shatter in about a decade.

    No it's not.

I've had mine come apart at the waist once, and that's because when I was trying to transform him for the first time, I tried to twist his waist around, which isn't a clean rotation, so it forces his halves apart. Since then, it's been fine. Nothing falling off at all, and no conscious effort on my part to make sure nothing falls off.

Seems to be a common problem, mine has been fine though.

Mine came apart at the waist. Why does gold plastic fall apart?

The protoforms are really cheaply made... I cannot pose them without some body part falling off .....

Neither of my Protoforms lose parts when transforming or posing.

I haven't had any real problems with my ProtoScreamer. The spring in his gun is too tight and the missle won't lock in place because of it, but that's just because I haven't got around to fixing it yet.

Well it fell off. That's the problem. I didn't say it was continuous.

Waist pops off while TFing. Neither his, nor Prime's guns or "entry flames" stay in very well in alt. mode. Otherwise, nothing else...yet.

It's known as "Gold Plastic Syndrome":

Happened to my G2 Electro a few years back.

Doesn't less swirls = more durability?

...OUCH. Pity, since he's SUCH a damn good toy. One of the first decent properly jointed TFs IMO.

Mine hasn't had any trouble at all, but I can see him being very brittle in 10 years time.

    Folks:

I'm pretty sure any parts-falling-off issues on Rockstarscream are just loose-joint issues...it should be too early for gold plastic rot, if the plastic used is actually susceptible.

Using solvents or solvent-based paints on Starscream, however, might create an exception to this, if it should start dissolving the plastic-metal bond. Master Fwiffo on the Allspark used a paint marker to color some of his Starscream's details and discovered that the plastic became brittle in the painted areas...I don't have one myself to do any experimentation with, however.
