    Broadside WIP Recolor Update

Here's a look at my current w.i.p., Tidal Wave to Broadside. The figure itself is coming along nicely, though I'm still waiting for my jetfire hulk to get here to do Smog's leg mod. I just don't think I'm happy with the colors. Broadside's legs look very primary-school-y and the alt mode looks especially out of place. I would like to remain true to Broadside's original coloration without making him look like half a crayola set.

Perhaps some darker colors? More grey tones on the legs? Or does it look good as is?

I've stared at the damn thing so long i can't tell anymore...

Heh, just noticed in the pics, I used a gold socket from an old RID Magnus to give the Jetfire helm a swivel, and it makes for a pretty cool effect when it reflects the light through the clear visor.

Might have to steal yore idea wit this, dint even think of usin tidal wave for broadside, looks great as is, but darker shades of grey would be badass, and mebbe few light coats of darker red or orange along the legs would like nice in me own opinion, and mebbe a dull coat over it all, seems shiny, granted I am a complete amatuer at paintin so you might wanna ignore everythin I jus said, either way it looks great amongst yore wrecker clue.

yeah, I think really all you needed to do was mute down the colors a bit, they are very bright. Otherwise you did a really good job with this.

IMO on the legs to make him look more like the toon pic make the grey on legs red and the red grey. just my two cents

Well, I found this set of pics elswhere on the site and I thought about coloring the legs as such or perhaps switching the red and the grey.

Edit: BTW, while I'm here... can anyone identify what Sandstorm is made from in that pic?

energon cliffjumper/beachcomber is what sandstorm looks to be made from.

i like the scheme you have so far, maybe a quick wash with darker reds and greys would help tone down the colors and bring out more details.

^ Looks to be made from Energon Cliffjumper/Beachcomber. On topic, your custom looks really good, but like everyone else said, it's a little bright.

I think perhaps a flat coat and a black wash/dry brushing would help tone down it's colors and bring out the smaller details.
    Otherwise great job.

Alright, so after finding a doodle of Tidal Wave I decided to play around with the colors in Paintbrush and here's what I've come up with for an alternate paint job on the legs and I think I like it better. I'm going to mix up some muted colors tomorrow and give this a shot. I also think I may abandon the blue altogether or move to the darker blue I used with Fort Max. But I think I'll let mini Broadside stay the way he is, I'm actually quite pleased how he turned out. Now for the color stripping, yay...

How did you get the shoulders pointed outwards? Did you switch them? I see that on a lot of Tidal Wave/Shockwave mold customs.

Yeah, simple switch of the pylons. It took me a while to decide which way I liked best and I nearly went with the original configuration, but I've found that this one gives him the most articulation in the arms. I also improved upon it by shaving away a bit of the carrier deck on the forearm at the elbow, allowing him to bend his arms further.

Quick update showing of Broadside's new color scheme, as well as the freshly modded Jetfire legs. Quite happy with the way he's turning out.

Nicely done! Jet mode looks like the S.H.I.E.L.D Hellicarrier though, or the Argo from Star Blazers.

hard to believe this guy was done almost 3 years ago.it does remind me that i still have to do the same leg mods/articulating to the one i did almost 3 years ago too.
