The Korean version isn't a knockoff, it's a licensed release of the toy in South Korea. I've got that one and it's very high quality, as much so as the original japanese release.

As for how to tell them apart, the Korean package has Korean writing, obviously. But if you cant tell it apart from Japanese, the lower right corner of the front of the box will have a white box with a red logo reading SOK, that's Takara's Korean partner, Sonokong.

That's the Japanese release, but again I stress, the Korean version is just as much an official release as any toy Hasbro brings over to the US from Takara.

Its Japanese writing so I figure this would not be the Korean version.

Ahhh, my many years of Japanese is finally paying off!

Consider yourself VERY lucky then, Takara only released a handful of Brave Max's with their parts as a promotional contest. 99% of the time the Japanese version is as stripped down as the Korean release.

Yes, it's the exact same toy inside, just as high quality.

TransRepro used to but I think it's been a while since they produced them, eBay might still have some sets floating around.

Check ebay... I know there's at least one seller that lists them occasionally.

I have the korean version, and it is probably the only way I will ever own that particular mold. I think the perception that the Korean version is a knock-off helped keep the prices down on it when it originally came out. I wonder how much these things are going for these days?
