Is it bad that I recognized the artist without even having to look for it?

Wash all the parts very thoroughly before you try to prime them. You want to make sure all the mold-release agent is gone before you try to paint it, otherwise you'll end up with bubbly paint that wont stick. Clean and sand carefully to remove flash, and make sure any sanding you do is wet sanding.

Wet sanding, FYI, means you use slightly moistened sandpaper... you can get special stuff that wont fall apart. The reason you do this is because you don't want to be spreading any resin dust around... especially not breathing it. Resin is a silica based compound ... Silicosis (miner's lung) is no laughing matter :p

Finally, it may not be a big necessity with a kit like that which doesn't have lots of heavy parts on narrow joins, but you might also consider pinning the pieces together to create a more solid connection. Resin is solid and heavy, and often can be unstable if held only with glue. Pinning is exactly what it sounds like... buy some brass rod from a hobby store and a pin vise (a small, hand held drill with variable small bits), and drill a hole for the pin in either side of the piece you want to join together. The pin, combined with good two part epoxy, will ensure your resin statue never snaps or breaks (at least, not at the joints anyway).

.. you might do a google search for more in-depth tips.

I'm a fan of Shunya Yamashita's artwork. I've been trying to pick out a statue from his artist line to get for my GF for Christmas.

This site has a good selection of statues. There's a bust of that piece coming out, I think. I've been shopping around on Ebay for better prices/availability.

Awesome, awesome stuff. Resin models can be a pain to build though. Lots of pitfalls. From watching the dust to filling seams.

For really good in-depth coverage of the build-up process, I'd suggest hanging out on a place like http://www.hobbyfanatics.com/ for a few days. They even have a forum dedicated specifically to boobs. . .er, I mean resin figures. And going through a few of the step-by-steps will tell you way more than any amount of babbling by us will tell you. Most folks there do a good job of explaining their techniques, including various methods of pinning, what types of glue work best, and what painting methods work. Airbrush or hand-brushing, they'll show you the way.

Good luck with it. You'll have some frustration with your first resin model, but you'll also have a lot of fun with it if you enjoy model building. Enjoy.
