I bought this last Thursday Samsung 32" Widescreen LCD HDTV (LN-S3251D)
, I have yet to open it due to various reasons but it will be opened Saturday. I bought unit this based on space, cash flow, consumer reports rating and various other net sources. A co-worked said to go with the same sized sony I thought the picture on the Samsung was better. Even though it is not open yet I know I will be happy with it but as always I would like to get other opinions on my purchase.

Looks pretty sweet to me. All that really matters is that you are happy with it though :)

I don't care for LCD's contrast ratios, but it should last you a long time and they are nice for the money.

I've been looking at the 3251 myself. It seems to be one of the better reviewed models, the only notable problem being some slight edge enhancement caused by their DNIe. And the fact that they don't give you an option to turn that off. I actually looked at the model today in Best Buy next to a comparable Sony and it was quite nice. I'd be interested in hearing more of your opinions as you rip into it though.

That's pretty much the best 32" tv you can buy unless you go with a 1080P model. Congrats.:thumb

Samsung makes awesome products, and that looks like no exception. Anyone who insists Sony is superior is stuck living in 1985 when that might have been true. Sony is not the be all end all of consumer electronics manufacturers anymore.

Samsung has really improved their products over the last 5+ years. I bought a Samsung DLP, and just about all their new TV's get high marks. The 4000:1 contrast ratio is pretty good as well.

But to be really fair, some Sony products are still great. The top of the line sony XBR Bravia are just amazing are what they are capable of doing. Yes Samsung is a good tv too, but one brand that gets overlooked that is good value for the specs is LG.

But for LCDs right now its definately Sony and Samsung. Once LG releases their 1080p LCDs (they're still at 1080i), they will be up there with Sony & Samsung.

But to OP, definately a good purchase, you should be happy with the tv. Make sure when you watch standard cable channels to stretch the image to cover the full screen. It might lessen the picture quality but then you won't have to worry about burned in black/gray bars on the sides of your tv.

I -think- LG may supply screens to Samsung, not entirely sure though, I heard it on the internet.

well now you mention it, LG do pretty good screens as well.

my neighbour has a 40" bravia, and i wasn't impresed. there was some weird ghosting going on with a dvd, made Jack Bauer look like he was made of jelly. could have been the connection he used though to be fair.

The latest batch of Bravia's are actually pretty damned decent. We got a batch at work and they kick the asses of the older ones. I was impressed.

LCDs don't have the same problems with "burn-in" as CRTs do. A similar effect can happen after long periods of exclusive 4:3 viewing, but it usually isn't permanent.

Samsung co-owns an LCD manufacturing business with Sony, in the same way that LG does with Phillips.
