Well i mean some sets go for more then others 2000 for just the boxed set seems really high but if someone's willing to pay that then the price goes up. The sets are worthwhile imo but not for anywhere near 2k.

Well, it all depends on if you like them and on how Devoted some can be.

They're highly limited run sets, and the 2008 set has some fantastic designs in it including the closest we have got so far to a Classics Jazz. And a technical classics Goldbug of some description too. More than that, it is a plain fun set with loads of personality.

The 2009 set was a bit less well received, but even so, you get some great designs (I personally love all of them) and a version of Scourge who fits in with the Classics.

I haven't been interested in the past Botcon sets for the most part, but I'm stoked about this year's set already! I won't be attending though, so I'll probably never get it... :(

The boxsets originally went for $300 so expecting it for much less than that isn't realistic

I got the 09 set on ebay for less than its original price (I got it for $215 shipped), and I didnt have to pay that much for the attendee souvenirs either (despite them being more popular than the boxset that year, I guess they still didnt go up that far in value).

The 07 set on the other hand...

Wow, this reminds me of something that happened a long time ago.

I really wanted that Botcon set with Deathsaurus, and I was really young ( I didn't get the value of it) and I asked my mom if I could get one.

It costed around 800 bucks, and all I got was a straight NO.

Just recently I bought an RID Megatron at a yard sale, so I'm happy.

So yeah, I think the cheapest way you'll ever get one is to by going to the convention itself.

When was the Deathsaurus set ever $800? It was the least popular by far.

The 09 set can be found for much less than it's original price... see quote below:

My theory is the '09 set was produced in enough quantity that the majority of those who wanted it, got it either at the convention or as an Iacon package. Typically the weekend of Botcon, everything goes for big money on ebay but that weekend there were hardly any boxsets listed and those that sold, hardly sold for full price.

You can still get the 05 set (boxed and loose) from the club store for less than $300 shipped.

Must have been Botcon weekend 2005. After that, the set could hardly be given away.

Hum, must have been those scalpers....

Or yeah, maybe it was Botcon weekend.

EDIT: Does anyone know the original molds that the Virulent Clones were made out of?
