There's *always* cosplayers at Botcon. The costumes range from 'cute' to 'absolutely insane'.

Doing a contest for it seems new. You'd almost think they'd have done it years ago, it's been a staple of conventions for at least a decade now.

    Doesn't that always happen?

Thinking about it makes it that much easier for me to miss botcon every year - people in goofy costumes make me uncomfortable and embarrassed.

I dont know why you would be embarrassed at that; I mean cmon, were adults at a convention for robot toys...

Though i dont have the imagination nor funds for some of those costumes, I respect those that go out of their way to entertain others and fully enjoy themselves for it

I am actually curious and mildly miffed as to why you think it's something "goofy."

I have been a long-time Cosplayer and pour my heart and soul into the rigs I create for conventions each year. For someone to call them "goofy" is, granted, their right to do so and while it might not be for some people, it's an absolute and utter joy for others to see someone in something that looks like it stepped right off the television screen.

Regardless, I am looking forward to Cosplaying this year, and most certainly looking forward to seeing what fantastic characters will show up this year!

Agreed, there's been some awesome costumes at Botcon's past - King Starscream in 2010, Devastator and Grimlock in 2011 along with the aforementioned Movie series bots, and wasn't there that awesome Bumblebee one in 2009 as well?

I personally have to admire the amount of care and dedication that goes into a lot of the costumes. Like Mirai said, it's like they stepped out of the television screen.

And they're all universally good sports taking lots of time out to pose for photos.

You may as well ask why I don't like celery. I just don't. No need to get "miffed" about it.

When I'm at something like a convention or fair or the mall and see someone in a costume coming my way I give them a wide berth. That's just how it is.

Is it wrong that I want to make a huge joke here about how all the cosplayers are violating Hasbro's IP and may be stripped down by Hasbro representatives and/or cavity searched TSA style?

    Never mind. Already did.

Wrong? No... Completely irrelevant since Hasbro has clarified and said there is no issue with fan art stuff/Cosplay as there has been for 18 years? Yes :p

The Hasbro brand team and BotCon enjoy and appreciate every one showing up in costume. Nothings changed in that regard :)

Sorry, still couldn't resist the joke. :lolol  Pete, out of all the folks who will be at BotCon, I would definitely think you'd be all for disguising yourself. Things not to dress as:
    A bullseye
    A suggestion box

We fans get pretty darn rabid, so be sure to get those tetanus shots early!
