Next year's date might be told to us at the show, though it was a damn surprise last year when they gave details on this year's show.

Next year's show will PROBABLY be held at the end of September again. We MIGHT get some information, as has been said, at the dinner or organizer's panel this year, but there's not a guarantee on that. They plan ahead, but if the show is end of September again in 2008, then it's still a good year and a quarter away, so everything may not be decided as far as venue.

Registrations usually open up 3-5 months ahead.

I hope so. I just can't get vacation time in the middle of the summer. It's a bit easier that time of year.

I'd imagine it will be either up north or out west since the past few have been south, mid-west, and east.

Kansas City...right smack dab in the middle. Don't like paying a ton for hotels.

There’s loads of cool stuff to do in SF. Alcatraz, cable cars, the Golden Gate Bridge, China Town, The Palace of Fine Arts/ Exploratorium, Haight Street (for the pot heads among us) Japan Center, Castro Street (for Lance) just to name a few things.

and if you want to go to a Baseball game the Giants are right on town and the A’s are just on the other side of the Bay Bridge.

I hope they wait and see the attendance results of both of the cons with the switched time, and make the appropriate business decision. Although I've never been to the Joe con, for some reason I'm under the impression (maybe mistakenly) that Botcon is now the bigger show...

Anyway, I think it's way too far out for them to know next year's location. Especially considering that they had a shortened schedule to set this one up.

Actually, this brings up an interesting point. I've not heard a lot of talk of "the convention should be here" for reasons of hotel costs. I expect that some parts of the country are cheaper than others, and costs are starting to get to the point where if an area with comparably cheap hotels was found, that would be more of a factor to me than cheaper travel.

I just mentioned that because if it were in KC, we wouldn't have to pay for a hotel at all. We have a house. But, this is the first of 3 botcon's we're actually staying at one of the con hotels. Before we always found a cheaper one nearby. In 2005 we managed a pretty nice hotel for only $34 a night. It was 10-15 minutes away, but with our own car it was no big deal for the savings. Providence isn't as abundant in cheaper hotels...so our 4 night stay is more than double what our 8 night stay was in Texas.

I assumed that *you* were in KC (although couldn't tell by your profile statement, so I didn't make a specific point about that in case I was wrong). But your point allowed me to make the suggestion regarding hotel prices that I haven't seen made before, and which I think is still relevant.

It is very relavent. Believe me, I'm not happy about spending like $640 for 4 nights after taxes.

That's why you should look outside Providence. Pawtucket is just a few miles up the road and then Warwick (?) is south of Providence. Either area should have cheap hotels.
