    Botcon movie screening

The movie absolutly blew me away :rock

Tyrese Gibson came in with Rachael (forgot her last name) from the movie and thanked the fans. a few people (myself included) stood up and yelled "bring it!!!"

I never had any doubt really, but to say this is THE summer movie would be an understatement.

Thanks to all those who made this happen, and I feel privelidged to have seen it early.

I will most definately go again when it opens!

    Topic of this post:

No spoiler reviews I recall got across just how much Megatron said.

When he awakens in the S7 base, he doesn't just roar.

*Megatron pulls out his mace hand as he utters:* "I...am...MEGATRON."

I was amazed that the sound was so sharp my seats shook (and I sat behind the hasbro team and the Botcon team near the top. It was like a simulation ride... you FELT the movie!

Yup, and thats how it should be. I think they did an amazing job with the sound and visuals. If giant robots were running around, you'd feel it, and they would fuck shit up like they did.

Again, pure awesomeness. If this isn't the best movie this summer, I'd be surprised.

    My thoughts-

To be fair, "Transformers" is not a masterpiece. It will probably never be classified as "culturally significant" or win awards for anything other than visuals.

And, at its heart, it is not much more than a 2 1/2 hour toy commercial.

    But here's the thing-

It's not really trying to be anything else. Michael Bay, rather than try to deny the cheesy and somewhat ridiculous background of this project has chosen to fully embrace Transformers at the core and the results, believe it or not, are DAMN. GOOD.

Breakthrough special effects are combined with Bay's trademark action sequences to bring the most beloved elements of our favorite toys to life at long last. Top it all off with Peter Cullen and you have a guaranteed blockbuster on your hands!!!!!

Overall, the movie was about the best I could have wished for.
The only thing I would have added was more Decepticon screen time. Devastator was totally Brawl, but oh well. Bumblebee was great as a camaro, this drove me nutz until I saw it all together.

I have admit I was impressed two of the actors came out. And hopefully I'll meet Peter Cullen later this weekend...

That's where you're mistaken! It's a General Motors commercial and a US Armed Forces Advertisement as well! But a Highly enjoyable one at that!

A 2 1/2 hour toy commerical? Okay, I see where he's coming from. A GM commercial? Completely understandable. But an advertisement for the military? I never understand it when people say things like this. Sure, they show off some flashy aircraft (some of which aren't even in front-line service yet), but so did War of the Worlds. Honestly, it's as if some people really think the movie is saying "Hey kids, join the military and you too can fight giant, shape-shifting alien robots, just like in Transformers!". It makes about as much sense as saying that Jarhead and Black Hawk Down were military advertisements.

I thought it was awesome. It exceeded my expectations for sure. Toy Commercial? Whatever. Of course they are trying to sell toys. Always has been that way since G1

I'm not going to nitpick it. It wasn't perfect in some of the dialouge, but, overall, I give it a standing ovation.

actually, if you read the article in wired, bay admitted as much.

basically, since pearl harbor hes had easy access to pentagon. army dude cooperate with him at high level because they see it as a recruitment drive. hence josh duhamels character.

and i dont think theres anything wrong with that. its really cool how bay can get all this army hardware up close for real.

I don't think anyone envisaged the Pentagon saying "sure, use all our blowy-up stuff. We like TRANSFORMERS so don't care what it costs us!". Of course they had a motive.

I'm sure the film wasn't conceived as some form of recruitment drive by makers, but it's only logical that the millitary saw it as such.

Well I may not be at Botcon, but I did just watch the Premier here in Vancouver and holy **** was it a kick-ass action-packed movie. Full of good humour, some cheese but not too much and absolutely amazing special effects. Lots of good lines, a bit too much of one particular line maybe.

It did leave me wanting more though, I cant wait to watch it again.

Loved the movie, Megatron and Starscream were dead on, there is nothing at the very end of the movie, so no need to stay all the way through.
