    Deefuzz reporting in:

A little over an hour ago we just walked out of the panel with Activision about the Transformers Game. There wasn't really alot of NEW information, just some interesting insight into the game making process. Instead of typing out a long drawn out post I will just copy and paste my notes from the event:

    Activision Panel

    *Showed the Activision UK promo
*Showed trailers and promos for the game
*Showed Promo with Goldner and Archer talking about what they wanted with the character designs

*Activision met with Hasbro, went through Transformers school. Transformers school is a "Transformers 101" that Hasbro uses to educate people about their product and what they envision the Transformers to be as well as their iconic characters. They were brought into the "trust circle" early on with the product. They saw early designs, early scripts, and used it to figure out what they wanted the game to be about: Transformations, Scale, and Destruction were their 3 key concepts.

*They looked at the game from the robot perspective, and thought it was important to play through the game as an Autobot or Decepticon. They tried to add to the movie story through the game, for example they had mentioned that Bumblebee battles with some Decepticons prior to driving up to Bobby Boliva's car lot that we see in the movie.

*They worked in collaboration with ILM to figure out the models and their movements and how to translate that to the video game. They mention how the movie producers understood the importance of the video game design process.

*Differences between movie making and video game design. They needed gameplay mechanics on how the weapons look, how they function, and the damage done. Something that the movie producers save till much later in their process which the game makers need early on.

*Michael Bay asked them what they need to make the game great. They wanted to know alot about the weapons, the damage done, and shots of the transformations as mentioned earlier.

*Activision says they decided you needed a great amount of characters "the stormtrooper character" for fodder in the game. They didn't want any continuity flaws by using any other established characters that COULD appear in a future movie/game, so they design drones for fodder purposes. They spoke about giving back to Hasbro with the designs of the drones, which they could in-turn use to make new toys.

*They were able to expand on the movie script and really develop the characters a little more. They were thinking of extra characters to bring in, so they wanted a triple changer and decided on Shockwave which is something they knew G1 fans would like. On that they decided to add unlockable content based on G1 stuff.

*the original concepts involved many more characters, but they were able to squeeze in G1 homages without bulking up the game with too much stuff. They felt that the G1 authenticity was added with the addition of Cullen and Welker, a very nostalgic feel. Makes the game able to have appeal to both G1 and movie fans.

*They all commented on being awestruck working with Peter Cullen. A surreal feeling hearing him reading the lines they wrote. Lots of "oh my god it's optimus prime!" comments.

*Time constraints with Hugo Weaving allowed Activision to pursue Frank Welker for the game. The studio was pursuing Weaving because Bay really wanted him. Activision asked if they could get access to him because they really needed to record dialogue but the studio was not ready to announce yet, and Hugo had still not committed, so they asked if they could go for Welker and the studio said it was cool.

*Downloadable content: Comic art, fanart, repaints of movie characters, movie trailers, G1 toy Optimus and Megatron models. Xbox live dashboards and themes, movie, G1, stuff all available through marketplace.

*G1 Megatron will flyaround in robot mode like Superman, with fusion cannon straight out.

*Codes with Robovision allowing you to unlock G1 content on the game.

*Transfomations were a challenge from the beginning. They said they had to cheat a little to make it look and feel right. It took 1 animator 2 and a half weeks to finish the animation for Bumblebee's Transformation from robot to car mode.

*All games have their own take on the story tied around the movie IP. The DS they decided to make two games, which they saw as a unique opportunity to explore each faction closer. A unique set of missions on each game. Also multiplayer with downloadable missions which scores points for each side of the faction when missions are completed. Each day there is a winner (Autobots or Decepticons), Decepticons have been winning lately, they think people are buying the Autobot SKU and deep sixing the side on purpose.

*PSP was aimed to tailor more to G1 fans. People on the design team picked some of their favorite characters from back in the day. An intertwined story which occurs at the same time as the movie storyline involving other characters in their movie visages (ie. Shockwave)

So is there a chance that Brawl, Bonecrusher and Ratchet may appear as downloads then?
That'd be rad, seems a waste to make transforming models with all the moves and features of playable characters, but not make them playable.

    UK promo, whats that?

Hey guys, did you ask if a Shockwave toy can be made based on the game design? If Aaron designed the drones, I wonder if he designed Shockwave. The drones are coming out as toys....

Oh yes...Just such a waste that he's basically a glorified drone in the game. He doesn't even talk.

yea shockwave would make a killer figure, he's awesome in the game. i'm really hoping they add some DLCs and maybe a major update that would allow a versus mode for up to for 4 players/characters and maybe an online mode? it's quite pointless to make models of drawl and bonecrusher and then not have them as playable characters, i mean there's a boss fight against brawl so why not make him a playable character? he seems to be one of everyones fav movie characters or designs so it'd be waste to not make him playable
