I just stumbled into this news as I was just reading the news this morning.

As most of us members here that do listen to Queen and have enjoyed their songs during the days when Freddie Mercury was still alive and now have kids in our family that carries our passion for the band, I'm sure that there are die hard fans that would to watch this.

Mr. Robot's Rami Malek looks exactly like Freddy Mercury in a first look at the new Queen biopic

Well, he certainly has the look, but not really the height or the build. That said, I am glad it is finally getting off the ground...

Wow. I wanted Sacha Baron-Cohen to do it, and I was sad when he called it quits over the band's persistence into silliness, but I understood why he did it. I have to say I'm impressed with Rami's look, here. I'm okay with this, proceed.

The word on the street is that the remaining members of Queen have completely sanitized the story of this film.

As per the quote from the IDMB's trivia tidbits section on the movie:

Sacha Baron Cohen was the original choice to play Freddie Mercury. He left the project due to creative differences with the band's guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor. The original incarnation of this with Baron Cohen fell apart after May voiced upset after finding that the project would only be a biopic of Freddie Mercury & not the rest of Queen. May felt that it should focus on the other members and the aftermath of Mercury's death. He also voiced his negative opinion of the casting choice of Baron Cohen, whom he felt was too much of a comedic actor who wouldn't do Mercury justice in drama.

I wouldn't worry about it @Tracer after the agreement was approved by May and the remaining members of Queen.

The film has gone through substantial changes and will not show Freddy's death at all, in its current state.

That is correct as well @Ephland from what I understand. The biopic is focused of the beginnings of the band and up to Live Aid concert that happened in '85.

That man held that crowd in the palm of his hand like no one else could during that concert.

(FWIW, the last words Freddie ever spoke on screen were, "I still love you". Appropriate for such a performer who loved his fans as they loved him.)

UPDATE: Live Aid scene filmed. He has the mannerisms and everything done pat.

Has the look down as well (in some ways it is like Freddie came back to life):

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy........

I’m of two minds about this. On the one hand they say never meet your heroes, but on the other I am a fan of Queen so a biopic of the band is up my alley.

I saw a concert tribute for him by many known bands back then when I was a kid.
In the laser disc video. GNR, Metallica, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Extreme..
    That was in 1992.

That was the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert at the old Wembley Stadium. Aerosmith was not part of that show.
