Indeed... and was responsible for naming and giving personalities to nearly all of the 1984 characters.

If there were ever a "father of G1" (at least from a character development standpoint), it's Bob.

For a while in the 1990s it was very fashionable in TF fandom to hate on Bob while declaring Furman god incarnate.

I'm glad people are finally realising the unrivalled contribution he made to the franchise.

Hear hear. Without Budiansky, there would be no Transformers as we know them. Those early profiles are still some of the most articulate and distinct characters I've seen developed on any toy line, and it's honestly probably 85% of why I love Transformers today.

However you rate his actual comic-writing on the series, his initial character work makes his contribution to the property of Transformers is pretty much carved in stone. And inlaid with gold. :)

Awesome. Those initial comics were so fun when I was young. It was weird to me at that age, being different than the cartoon, but I kind of enjoyed that.

Yeah - I've read a lot of his stuff lately via IDW's reprint series, and I quite like his work on Transformers.

Everything was fine with his stories until Hasbro started demanding that the newest toys be featured. Furman ran into the same problems, but he mixed things up a little better. (Using classic characters alongside the new ones)

All hail good ol Bob. I'm a big Furman guy, but I know who laid the foundation. Dude is like vector sigma; before cybertron was Bob was.
