"The Late Show with David Letterman," among other places, has confirmed that Drew Carey will be taking over "The Price Is Right."

We could've done a lot worse.

MY wife says the show will tank without Bob Barker, no matter who the replacement is.

I'm inclined to agree with her.

if it's true, we also could have done a lot better.

Don't get me wrong becasue I like Drew but when I see him, I don't think "Price is Right." I think Family Feud or even Wheel Of Fortune. But not this. Also, isn't Drew's soul owned by Disney and thus ABC?

I must agree as well. I do believe that Drew at the helm will mean a slower, less painful tank than anyone else. Especially Rosie.

Good. As much as I'm hyped they didn't go with that hate-monger of a sea-cow Rosie, I'm happy. I think Drew will do well, but without Barker, it's a gamble from the get-go.

They could have done MUCH worse. I don't think it will last much more than a season or 2 without Barker.

You can't blame them for trying, but the show is done without Bob in my opinion.

    Yup it's official:

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,290501,00.html

I thing Drew Carey will do a good job with the Price is Right and I think his time on Who's line will help with the spontenaiety of crowd.

Now the question is how much will they change the show. I think if they're smart, they won't change much about the decore or the games right away.

Drew Carey is such a generic pick, IMO. It's not any different than a Mario Lopez or Richard Karn getting one of their cheeseball gigs. The show without Bob Barker just doesn't seem worth watching now.

He's just not funny to me, or endearing........which Barker was.

Totally agree. But hey, at least it's not Rosie.

    Or Wayne Brady.

    That's why I think he's not a great choice.

Barker wasn't a wise cracker. Yeah, he may have made a small joke or two, but he was a class act all the way - he was to game shows what Mr. Rogers was to kids TV.

Or Johnny Carson was to late night talk.

Carson, while being a funny guy when on the spot, was brilliant in his job because he always knew how to let the guest have the spotlight. Didn't matter if he was talking to a head of state or your Grandma, the person he interviewed was the most important person in the room.

The same is true of Barker. No matter who is on stage, he makes sure the attention is on that person. Everyone, no matter who they are, are the star of the show for the few minutes they're on the stage, and no one was every the target of wise cracks. I have a hard time seeing Drew Carey do anything but hogging the stage. I'm with WreckGar - I think he'd be fine for Family Fued (Carey is a better match for Dawson than Barker), but not so much TPiR.

Of course, there's only so much I can fault Carey. Guys like Barker and Carson were of a different time, and they carried that with them. Not a lot of guys like them in the next generation.

Whatever happens now, the show will be different. I wish Carey well, I wish the show well in its new incarnation, but somehow I suspect the show so many of us grew up with is now gone for good.

The game show world isn't ready for the sheer awesomeness of that, Drew.

    Maybe some day...

I love Drew Carey, I'm a huge fan of his. But I don't think this is well suited for him.

It could have been much much worse. I'll have to wait and see.

I'm a big fan of Drew Carey as well, and, considering how well he did on Whose Line, I'm fairly optimistic about this.
