I said both based on the new toys. Both uses of the mold look great. I only own Bludgeon but thats simply because i do not do repaints often.
you guys have great insight. i like bludgeons story and color scheme, and name, better. its only the quality of the paint to me looks better on banzaitron. the orange and tan sword colors on banzaitron look so flat. and i dont paint so here i am.
this is why i might keep my bazaitron and just call him bludgeon. i love the white skull face on bludgeon though...
Bludgeon is an established character who played a big part in the Marvel comics at one point and is just simply a cool concept (skeleton Samurai robot alien warrior that turns into a tank). Banzai-Tron...was an Action Master. He got a new figure; a redeco of Energon Mirage, from 2009 Botcon, and that figure looks pretty good. I think the only reason the Bludgeon figure was even reused was because Banzai-Tron has the Japanese word "Banzai" (essentially a reference to Japanese soldiers in WWII who did land-based kamakazies at the Alied positions, for those who don't know) in the name. The colors on the HftD Banzai-Tron, however, are pure G2 eye-searing and I really, REALLY don't like it at all.
Bludgeon, because the Botcon version of Banzai-tron is so much more awesome and available still for pretty cheap.
Prefer Banzaitron's deco, especially around the face, looks more sinister. Prefer Bludgeon's character. I use Bludgeon with my CHUG figures and Banzaitron maybe with my movieverse toys.
The only thing Banzaitron did of any significance was in IDW's ongoing series he was the head (or at least a high ranking officer within) the Decepticon secret police. Bludgeon is just full of win, he's a fully developed character who has made several appearances and had several different takes on him. For the toys, Bludgeon by a country mile. The mold was made for him and fits him.
I like Bludgeon the character, but Banzaitron looks better to me toy-wise (I mean movieverse versions for both). Painted swords and the red skull look so badass.
i guess ive decided im going to keep my loose bludgeon and sell my mib bazai-tron. the color scheme is better. i like the white skull face and the orange green. ill have to overlook the lower quality looking plastic or the less pigmented plastic or whatever it is that bludgeon suffers from.
no, i like them both. has astrotrain ever had a twin or something? i just pretend they are two different characters. astrotrain and spaceloco.
"Spaceloco" I like that. I think i might use that on my Hasbro version. Yes they do, I have them posed in a somewhat similar fashion on my shelf.
You're welcome, Bludgeon! Comics Grimlock is based on his original tech spec. He's always had a very high rank, so in the comics he either leads the Dinobots and answers to basically nobody, or twice after Optimus Prime died he assumed command of the Autobots. (The second time Prime actually named him his successor.) Grimlock is impulsive, often dangerously so, and sometimes has "dumb" moments (and his characteristic speech impediment) but he's pretty cunning. Still, both times he led the Autobots it turned out to be a disaster as he was outsmarted by the enemy commander. Furman gives him a little arc about assuming responsibility for the men who have fallen under his command, and Optimus respects Grimlock for taking chances that he himself won't. I don't know IDW Grimlock, but War Within Grimlock isn't even close to dumb. He plays the Seekers for fools, almost stages a coup when he isn't named the Prime, and the only robot he even has a grudging respect for is Megatron. This actually gets him into trouble later, as the Fallen can take a punch.
That sequence made me laugh out loud in real life when I read that issue. One of the best "No"'s ever. IDW Grimlock is a bit of a mix. He sets up a Deadmans Switch to make sure that even if Shockwave beats the Dinobots (he does), their ship will blast him from orbit. Later he knows when to retreat when he realizes Scorponok has too many advantages. When the rest of the Dinobots return, the issue gets a bit emo, but the story focus' on Grimlock and the Dinobots coming to terms with each other.
