Holy popcorn! Blockbuster to close up to 960 locations -- DailyFinance Not really a surprise considering Netflix and Redbox are a lot cheaper and easier.
I am surprised that Blockbuster is still in business. All the BB have closed in my region. With the video streaming service becoming more popular in the future we may even do away with DVDs eventually.
Not surprised in the least. Hell, if it weren't for previously viewed 4 for $20 sales, I wouldn't ever enter a blockbuster.
I don't even bother renting DVDs. 9 times out of 10, I actually purchase the DVDs that I want and/or ask for a particular movie for my birthday or for Christmas. But yeah, it wouldn't surprise me that all of these video rental stores end up downsizing or even going out of business due to Netflix and other such services.
Yeah, really, and don't forget one of the other reasons, VOD-Video on Demand offered by most cable co.'s same day as DVD releases most of the time, and you can record it and keep a copy forever if you want to. Yeah, really good idea, should be lots of copies available for little $$$
Around here there's a Blockbuster on every corner, about 5 minutes away from each other. This kind of news comes as no surprise.
I'm not surprised either. Netflix is quickly becoming if it's not already, a juggernaut in the home entertainment industry.
mine better not close. its the best place to go when I rent games. 2 weeks FTW! and dont suggest Gamefly to me there ungodly slow with there shipping (5 days to get 1 game after sending the first back
Not extraordinarily surprised, since Redbox and Netflix are easier to use. But still, it'd nice to keep some opened so that I could borrow some video games.
Blockbuster always raised fees and changed rules on the fly for customers who were no longer new. As soon as they pull that crap I'd quit going. And usually have something to say to the manager. They tricked me twice with stupid policies first when they introduced games and DVD's and 2nd when they said no late fees. They would charge my credit card when something wasn't late(it was a day early) or when I hadn't even rented anything. After that I stopped going that was 5 to 8 years ago. Once netflicks started I never even thought about going into a rental store again.
I work for Blockbuster Canada actually BB Canada is thriving, because we don't have the same competition as there is in the US. But I wouldn't be surprised if we "downsized" up here as well within the next five years.
