I realize that G1 Blitzwing doesn't really look like a realistic fighter jet (They did do a great job considering that he also has to turn into a tank), but if you could compare him to any REAL fighter jet which one would it be? I'm thinking a MIG-25 Foxbat.
That's the generally agreed-upon answer, and I have yet to see anything closer. Meanwhile, what's that in your avatar?
Thanks. I so want to try and customize a Walmart Starscream into a Foxbat Blitzwing. That's assuming they'll be available in sufficient quantities. My avatar is a 3D render of War Within Mirage done by Rainking. Check out his stuff it's pretty cool. (http://www.iaconcity.com/)
I'm not sure the Mig 31 variant even existed at the time the Diaclone triple-changer that would be Blitzwing was first released.
The MiG 31 Foxhound entered service in 1981, and the prototype flew in 1979. However Blitzwings jet mode is clearly a MiG 25 Foxbat. You can tell by the cockpit, air intake dimensions and the wing tip rails. However Blitzwing is missing the elevators.
I don't think he's based on anything, rather the product of 80's toymakers just trying their best to get a brick to turn into a tank, airplane, and robot
I don't really have anything to add, but thanks for the link. His (her?) stuff used to be at 10fingersdesigns or something like that did it not? I used to go there and look -good stuff.
Someone needs to tell me what model jet the Jet/Copter Diaclone triple changer is supposed to be then.
Well, the copter mode certainly seems to be heavily inspired by the cobra. The plane looks somewhat familiar, by obviously it's been completely distorted to be able to transform.
Heli mode looks more like an AH-64 Apache; plane mode is debatable, perhaps an F-14 Tomcat (swing wings, twin tails). http://www.toyarchive.com/Diaclone/Triplechanger.html
sad thing is that would be easy as hell to make today: This thing is both at once. the turbins stop spinning and lock into place (notice the tiny thrusters on them) and they then act as the main wing. there's a rocket motor in the back of the body.
Yeah, copter mode on the jet/heli seems to be fairly obviously based on the Apache. Jet mode seems composite at best, (especially with an upside-down copter front as the tail end) forward fuselage looks vaguely like an F-4 Phantom (G1 Fireflight), but no other parts do.
Yup it's Mig-25. If you look at this picture and ignore the dark green parts (almost black in the picture) he suits the Mig-25 silhoutte (sp?) in the 7th post almost 100%. I think if you put him on a black backgroung and take a picture with the same perspective it would really come out.
