I'm not sure how many of you follow the anime series Bleach, but if you don't want to be spoiled, don't read past this line.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Still here? Good.

In this weeks episode #202, was the conclusion of the battle between Kenpachi Zaraki and Nnoitra Jiruga. In this episode, mid battle, was a flashback scene where Nnoitra was seen slaughtering random hollow for what seemed like his own amusement. None of these hollow were clearly visible as all were silhouettes. Then from out of left field, these silhouettes were recognized per scene.

Scene 1: Optimus Prime and Lockdown
Scene 2: Bulkhead, Prowl, and Bumblebee
Scene 3: Not certain, perhaps the dinobots?

I'm not aware of any previous relationship between Bleach, or its creator Tite Kubo, and The Transformers. I'd like to know if this was perhaps a homage as a kind of nod to TFs 25th anniversary? Perhaps maybe this was Tite Kubos way of saying he hates the designs for Animated? Who's to say?

Do any of you have any thoughts on this? Have Bleach and Transformers ever been connected in any way before?

Wouldn't be the first time. I'd say any publicity is good publicity. But if they're "slaughtering" the characters, I doubt it's a "I LOVE TRANSFORMERS!" respect kind of thing, and more along the lines of "I HATE ANIMATED!".

Whatever. I've never heard of Bleach, so that should tell you something.

    :useless

Since the hollows all look batshit crazy, it may be that they just kind of look like the Animated characters.

Besides, Animated hasn't officially hit Japan yet. While I wouldn't put it past people to be watching it on the Internet, I don't think Animated currently has the prominence in Japan to be included as background cameos in an anime.

Pics, please... Transformers is not that big in Japan (but there is homages or easter bugs ins popular series, like Gurren Laggan with Mechas shaped as the Insignias) but there is seems to be japanese fans viewing the show... I found some fan art.

I dunno. I've seen people do cameos like that for things they like.

You're kidding, right? It may not be as big as here, but it's still doing pretty good.

I have no idea how you saw this. There are about 29 frames per second and these images only appear at less than 5 frames before the subjects in question are destroyed. I just finished the episodes and I had to look back after seeing the entire episode to find out where they were. From the looks of it, the head animator does not like Transformers Animated if the villain in his story massacred these effigies of Transformers Animated Characters. Here are the screenshots:
Scene 1: Optimus Prime and Lockdown
    [IMG]
Scene 2: Bulkhead, Prowl, and Bumblebee
    [IMG]
Scene 3: Not certain, perhaps the dinobots?

Maroni Prime seems to be accurate in is assertions. However, I would not delve too much into this as any further reasoning seems to go beyond the simple explanation that the head animator just does not like Transformers Animated.

Damn, so I wasted all that time watching this episode and making screencaps for nothing.

Seeing the last one as the Dinobots seems to me to be a bit of a stretch, since they're just blobs.

Wow... that's pretty much indisputable. Take that, doubters! :)

The question is... is it a commentary by the anime's director, or just a personal reference/gag by one of the animators?

Heck... aren't all Japanese AND American cartoons animated in Korea these days? Maybe the guy who put these silhouettes into Bleach works on BOTH shows! :D

The assertion that he doesn't like Animated isn't neccessarily true. I mean, there are super robot homages all over Gurren Lagann, and they exist just to be massacred.

I heard that in times of Cybertron/Galaxy Force... it was the least selling Mecha Toy line... dunno this time Post Movie. Anyway, Bumblebee and Bulkhead are pretty clearly in line... Prime only in head in my opinion. Still, dunno, we can only speculate.

Yes, but the first enemy mechas (Ganmen) actually had a context within the show and were designed to be heroic in some ways

    I gotta say, I'm surprised.

Not about the little nod to TF there, but that this wasn't some crazy post about drawing insane connections between the characters.

I don't see anything in the "Dinobots" one, but the other seem close enough to be more than coincidence. "Bulkhead" is WAY too skinny though. Worth noting also that "Lockdown" reminds me more of the toy than the cartoon design, what with those birthing hips.

And yet when they were in Beastmen hands they were portrayed as either silly or evil, and were blown up en masse. I don't think this is something to get worked up about, at all.
