Right, it's back to Transformers after my little warrior girl, and this time I've decided to improve on Blaster. I've long had _kind_ of an idea to fix him up, but it wasn't until Masterpiece Grimlock appeared that I realized that I really needed his rival, and since a Masterpiece Blaster isn't likely anytime soon, who else is gonna do it but me? I'm giving him full posability in arms and legs and a new head. I'll also be building a new gun more similar to the comic model (no hole) since I don't have the original one. Then there are a few more really cool ideas I'm keeping under wraps so far. Having done the legs so far, I'm really impressed with the engineering of this toy. Obviously because of the original radio feature, there's all kinds of room for joints to be put in. It also makes him light enough that bionicle joints are strong enough to hold him. My Blaster is almost a junker with several parts missing, but I'll polish him up nicely. I'll be replacing everything that's broken anyway. Just some questions/suggestions: I'm making him based on the comic model, mostly on his initial appearance, but I was thinking about his eyes. He started out with blue eyes, but pretty soon ended up with yellow. Is that just colorist laziness or was the first version wrong? Also, would you consider his face to be yellow or actually gold? It sure looks shiny in some closeups. If I make it gold, though, it'll contrast a lot with the cassette door and I certainly can't make that gold.
looking great already. i say go with blue eyes, and for the head, maybe go with the toon look, with a silver face. just my 2 cents. keep up the awesome work
No. No way I'm doing that silly thing. Blaster needs to be Batman in red and not a silly Crashman lookalike. The visor and flag ears stay. I might still do a silver face though. This is my main reference. Moody Blaster is awesome.
that's awesome. i've never seen any of the comic book versions or anything. that looks sweeeet, yea do that
Coming along nicely. I've worked out the entire arm construction, but I'm saving the shoulder connections until I've finished the head to make sure I don't need to cut out more room around his neck. Because of budget cuts (I'm being let go in about two months) I won't be able to include my idea of an MP3 player in his chest and possibly a speaker in the leg, but I'm going to save some space in case I get the funds so I can add that later. There are still a few cheaper features I'm going to do.
He's mostly done, just need some paint now. Ran into troubles with the head after doing a bunch of soldering so his eyes won't work... but at least I learned how to solder.
Will his cassette door still be available? You didn't say. Just wondering. Blaster's team needs a spot to hang, y'know.
It's still available. I'm saving space for additional features later on. As for progress, I've been busy with other stuff so he's still being painted.
