After the shambles that the new Star Wars release is turning out to be, its good to see that at least one miserable old git with a controlling interest in a Harrison Ford film has finally started to play ball -

They better have a HD version of this set on the boil as well, 2007 is far too late in the day for me to buy it on DVD and this film couldent get any higher on my want list for the new formats.

That is awesome! Not so excited about having ANOTHER cut of the film... but I love having the option of choosing between the interesting but occasionally silly original cut and the generally superior directors cut.

How many posters here have even seen the original cut? I was lucky enough to catch a WGN showing of it...

Nice. I've held off on the dvd for a while, hoping for a nice fancy version, looks like I made the right move.

The new version is the first time that Ridley Scott has actually been able to cut it himself to what he wanted, the 92 "Directors Cut" was just a cleaned up workprint cut that he waved througth while working on another film as being better then the first release.

Its not like the crummy new version of Alien from a couple of years ago, which he admits was done for the money on request of the studio and that the original version is how the film is supposed to be.

Saw it loads of times before the 92 version came out and a couple of times after.

Oh man, this can't come soon enough for me. I love Blade Runner; I'm in danger of wearing my '97 DVD out.

Anyone here read the book it is losely based on, it is quite good.

"Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" by Philip K. Dick

    I'll be buying this DVD.

Also, if anyone has watched the Anime Bubble Gum Crisis, the series has alot of Blade Runner influences.

The main characters Priss and Leo. Priss is in a band Priss and the Replicants.

In Blade Runner Ford is after the Replicants, two of which are named Priss and Leon.

Bubble Gum Crisis also has a theme which addresses the rights of artificial intelligence.

Blade Runner is one of the most infuential SF films of all time, you can't go far in the genre without seeing something thats knocked it off in one way or another.

I've not seen Blade Runner yet, so maybe I'll finally get to with this.
