I know that the crowd here has a strong liking for good movies. So, has anyone watched Black Swan? Thoughts? I honestly believe it will receive at least two Oscar nominations: for Best Picture, and for best actress for Natalie Portman.

    Discuss.

I eventually would like to see it, but probably not at the theater, I like some good drama, and the two actresses are really good, will probably wait for PPV.

Aronofsky = not a very high chance of being good (IMO).
Ballet = not a high level of interest in subject matter.
Appearances of drama involving a bunch of unlikeable characters who just act irrationally and full of despair = high chance of film being unentertaining and probably very boring.
Portman/Kunis = high interest factor regardless of director, subject matter, and the probability of a critic loving snoozefest.

If I go see this movie it's only because of Portman, although her being preggers and engaged means I'd have to drop her from my Hot List for the time being. :(

This is on my to see list. Hopefully Aronofsky can make me like Portman as much as he did for Jennifer Connelly. And The Wrestler was PHENOMENAL.

If there were frigging light sabers, the forum would be drooling all the hell over it.

In three words: Creepy Psycho Ballerina. Black Swan focuses on Nina (Natalie Portman), a ballerina for a premiere New York ballet company. The company is trying to gain investors to keep the company running by re-imagining Swan Lake, and Nina is in the middle of it all as the new star, courtesy of its sexist director.

You don't have to care or even like ballet or classical music or anything artsy to watch this film. The whole thing surrounds the character of Nina, who is both the victim of her mothers ambitions, and of her own psychosis of someone trying to reach perfection.

Honestly, the wife and I saw this Christmas Day, and I think the title should be changed to "Can we please stop touching Natalie Portman", because pretty much every character does in this one. Watch the movie and you'll see why. It's NOT for kids, and has very sexual overtones through the entire film. It's a bit of a mindscrew though as it blurs the line of schizophrenia, and I can see why it's been nominated for so many awards. Portman plays her character to the absolute letter and really carries the movie. Kunis is good as the polar opposite of Nina's character, but not Academy Award worthy.

If you're a hard core Natalie "I'd-do-Queen-Amidala-cause-I-geek-like-that" Portman fan, this movie is for you. If not, prepare to want some brain sanitizer.

Saw it a few weeks ago. Very surreal movie. LOVED IT! Such excellent directing. Many scenes were so well done. Very accurate portrayal of rolling during the club scene!!!

:lol  When she first started appearing in things, it took me a few tries to realize Knightley wasn't Portman after having stepped up her British accent skills.

Wow. I just lost some nerd points, I did not know that.

    They look like twins!

Bland, tittyless twins. Much like the Olson twins.

    Correct on all counts.

(I didn't know about the Amidala thing, either.)

On topic: Definitely intend to see Black Swan, but I'll be waiting for Netflix.

It was pretty good, I especially enjoyed the bit with Portman in her undies humping her bed and diddling herself.

Anyone who needs some good thinspiration should watch this movie.
