I'm not necessarily excited to see it the way I have been with a lot of previous MCU movies, mainly because I just don't know or care enough about Black Panther as a character, but I'm absolutely hoping to be blown away by it. I mean, no one could care less about Captain America, Thor & Guardians than I did, but now Cap is pretty much my favorite character in the entire MCU, I love Thor, and relate to Rocket's attitude & humor more than any character. So if anyone can make me change my tune, it's Marvel with how they showcase these characters.

My only worry going into this is (some of) the CGI. I saw that clip they released of Killmonger fighting Panther on a railway or something, and it looked pretty terrible. VERY fake and video game-ish akin to what I just unfortunately watched for the entirety of Justice League. But hopefully it's just a scene or two, or even better, something they've since refined. But beyond that, I'm remaining completely optimistic.

Pretty much the same for me -- when it came to actual Marvel Comics, I only ever cared about the X-Men, but Marvel Studios made me a fan of (most) of the MCU. Despite having a Secret Wars Captain America figure when I was a kid, I wasn't ever big a fan, but Evan's Cap is my favorite MCU character.

Yeah, I noticed that bad CGI too. I hope that looks better in the actual movie, because ew.

I'm not exactly amped or losing sleep in anticipation over it; I just know I liked the character from Civil War, and that this looks cool; and most importantly a gateway into Avengers.

What a great song for the film! I can't stop listening to it.

    Hanuman

"Hanuman is a gorilla god worshiped by the Jabari."

MBaku isn't really an antagonist in this so it's okay, but I can see the Indian community raising some eyebrows over this. African culture has monkey gods that they can use too (African Creation Energy: African Monkey Gods), so this may spell trouble.

Just got back from seeing it - quick impression - it's fine, but I get the feeling it's been getting overhyped, the hardcore 'African Culture' in the designs and outfits feels a bit ridiculous at points. There's about as much 'story' as in the middle of the pack Marvel films. I found one characters fate very poorly done.

It's current average score is now down to 8.2 on RT. That puts it on par with Wonder Woman, which was average at best. I'm glad some reviewers are finally showing some sack.

Yeah, because reviewers who gave it (or Wonder Woman) really good reviews are somehow not showing sack?

So does this means it's now on par with The Last Knight?

I still haven't seen that. I'd rank it around 'Ant man' tier (so better than any Bayformer film).

Oops, I think you meant to post that in the Justice League thread aka The Room of modern comic movies on par with that Bayformers thing.

I was hoping for a "better than Ant-Man" ranking, but that's still not necessarily bad since Ant-Man was good (infinitely better than Homecoming). So I'm not discouraged.

So, is there really much stuff that is important to IW? Reason I ask, I wanna know if I need to see it before IW, or does it seem more like it is more about Black Panthers culture and city?

    I know that
discuss helping the rest of the world with their tech and Vibranium, and the end credit scenes
. But, is there anything else significant?

    No, it's pretty standalone.

This is definitely a movie I'd give a chance.

As some have said, my main worry is overhype. Only some of the critically raved about big budget super hero movies in recent years have actually been as good or nearly as good as hyped, like Logan, Deadpool, and GotG. The vast majority of the other recent super hero movies are massively overrated imho.

Given my massive disappoint in many critically approved big budget flicks, I'm just expecting an enjoyable romp and not this narrative and thematic masterpiece. So bring it on, and have a good time.
