I like going out on Black Friday in the early morning before it gets too insane and just looking around at Wal-Mart and Target. I am in the market for an HDTV and a Blu-Ray player this year, since they're projected to drop significantly in price this holiday season, but I doubt I'm going to venture out and fight the crowds for them on Black Friday.
ive done it twice, at a local compusa, but they did pre black friday sales, so it was day before thanksgiving first time round, i got there around 6pm, they opened at 7pm this was in 03, and i got a 160gb hd for $80 [good at the time], a canon printer and a free jvc dvd player i went again in 04, and got a 250gb hd for $100, and a DI624 router for $10 both times the HD went into my xbox heh the router lasted till a month ago, when it suddenly died
Didn't somebody literally get trampled there last year? I thought it only happened in cartoons, without the dying. Maybe if I smell bad enough, I can ward off shoppers and get what I want...
Good idea. I'm not bathing for a .... let's see how long till Black Friday .... a month and a half starting now.
I have better things to do than camp out in freezing cold weather. For the chance to get one of 5 cheaper items.
heh when i went last time, compusa had a stack of hard drives, i just brought my cart by and smacked a few into my cart later on, i waited till the rush died down an put all save one back but in 03, when wireless networking was still new, there were wireless B cards for $9.99, people jumped into that area like a set of wild hyenas on carrion
Have 911 on speed dial and wear kelvar body armor. Or a the very least sports protection gear. I worked it one time, never again. Also never work at a toy store during Christmas. Some of those grandmas are vicious. The only reason I ever shopped on Black Friday after the first time I tried was I worked at the store and they let me in early. So when the people came in I was at the register checking out. Seriously these days your better off ordering from those same stores over the internet for the same or close to it deals.
I worked a BF once at a retail store, 03 at Home Depot. I had to be there at 4 am and all I did for two hours was lower stuff to the aisle using the forklift. Then the crowds came. Not as bad as Target or Wal-mart, but still not enjoyable. I have gone out for BF to show though. Its fun to an extent. I thought about loading up a piano in the back of my truck and trying to entertain the crowds, kinda like I was Mark Russell.
I always say I'm not going to go out on Black Friday, but usually do. I find that I get a little stir crazy not going out on Thansgiving since everything's closed, and need to get out on Fri. Granted, it's usually because I need something like TP or something essential, not for the sales...but that makes it that much more frustrating, I'm trying to get in and out with something small battling everyone and their madness. Also, parking is a bitch and a half.
I'll go...but maybe retailers and local lawmakers and enforcement should work together to make the expereioence safer for everyone- limit how man people can enter a store, not allowing loitering before the stores open, etc.
You get good deals for Christmas presents and you get to watch the organized madness that ensues. That's the a fun day to go shopping.
I never shop on Black Friday. I can't stand the crowds and trying to find a parking space. Last year at 3:30 AM on Black Friday, I went to Walmart and I noticed people were starting to come in and standing around their pallets of blitzes. That is when I hurried up to get out of there.
